Bell Telephone Company was well established in 1929, with over 149 local customers in the Thessalon area, and this was one of the more modern structures along Main Street. It also housed Neil Currie's bake shop and residence while it served as the telephone exchange office.
The former Bell Telephone building was more recently home to Hans In Your Hair, whose owner and operator Hans Christensen was a well known Professional stylist, make-up artist and hair coloring technician. His clientèle came from as far as Elliot Lake for appointments and the salon also offered tanning and T-zone workouts.
The area next to the original telephone office was an empty lot in 1935. The grass was kept cut for 25 cents per week. To the north was Sam Cole's Grocer and Skoogs Shoe Repair,on the corner where Value-Mart in now located was Burke's Garage.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce building was constructed around 1963 and was in that location until 2017 when it closed. Prior to that time the bank had been located in the building at the south east corner of Main Street and Huron East until just before fire destroyed the building in 1963.
The Canadian Imperial Bank was previously known as The Sovereign Bank of Canada and the change was made on January 19th, 1908, when the bank was located on the west side of Main Street between Huron and Algoma.
This block was once home to William Walkers Blacksmithing, Elam Collver Farm Machinery Sales, and D.C. Cole's Grocer which later became IGA.
