Hunting in the South River Area
Small Game Hunting

Small game in central and northern Ontario consisted of hare, grouse, ducks and other animals. Small game was ideal for subsistence hunting since it was generally plentiful and easy to hunt. Recreational hunters enjoyed small game hunting as well. Fathers would take their boys hunting for grouse or hare as an introduction to hunting. Small game, unlike deer or moose hunting, could be done with little planing. Thus, it was easy to go out for a hunting stroll after work or chores.
