Ah, the Fall Fair. What community in Ontario doesn't have a fall fair? This section is dedicated to South River's Fall Fairs throughout this history. This picture is of Henry Erven getting ready for the South River's Fall Fair Parade.

Another image of Gordan Cotter cutting a log with a chainsaw. The judge at this event is W. G. Tough. The man watching Gordan Cotter closely is Grant Ulrick. Again there is a large crowd behind a wooden fence. One person is sitting on a pole to get a good view of the event.

Arnold Wylie and his partner are competing to cut through this log with a two-man crosscut saw. There is a judge on the right side and a few children watching on the inside of the fence. Behind the fence is a large crowd watching.

Another picture of a two-man crosscut sawing competition. On the left is Jack Tough and Arnold Wyling is on the right. A judge is standing at the end of the log with the two men cutting. Again there is a crowd behind the wooden fence.

Of course after the speed log cutting competitions, with so many manual and moving parts, there may be a need to take a trip to the red cross tent. This tent was set up on the fairgrounds of the South River Fall Fair.

This is a picture of a later sawing competition at the South River Fall Fair. The image has two men working on cutting through a log with a two-man crosscut saw. This image comes to us from the 1970s. We don't have the names of the people involved in this contest. However, unlike the earlier pictures there are men holding down the log at the far end and in the middle. The crowd is not as big as the ones we have seen before.

This is another picture of men sawing through a log with a two-man crosscut saw. One of the men is George Hawthorne. The name of the other man is unknown. There are also disks on the ground which could have come from this round of the competition or previous ones. The audience for this event is pretty thin in comparison to earlier events.

Here's one last picture of two men in a log cutting competition with a two-man crosscut saw. This is the first picture with a man without a shirt. There are some people watching but no where as many as in previous years.

Ah ha, we have a new contest! Here we have a man rolling a log uphill. The incline of the ramp is roughly 45 degrees. The man is working alone at one end of the log to roll it up this incline. The man in the white shirt, Stew MacIntosh, is in the foreground; he may be a judge watching this event. The picture must have been taken by someone in the crowd.
