In this section we will be looking at the families who have lived in South River. They have been arranged in alphabetical order and by date.

In this first picture we see H. O. Boorse, who was an immigrant from Culpsville, Pennsylvania. He came to South River when he was twenty. He married Annie Cole, of South River, in 1885. H. O. was a clerk at the West End Supply Depot. In the end though, H. O. moved his family to Alberta in 1906.

Annie and Katie are sisters-in-law. Annie's maiden name was Hadden. Annie married Percy Bottomley and Katie never married.

Katie Bottomley (1881-1971) is the daughter of Thomas and Ellen Bottomley, who emigrated from England and settled in Machar township in 1885. Katie inherited her family's homestead from her parents. She worked on the farm with her brother, Tom. They sold it in the 1940s.

Fred Detta, the man on the left, was born October 15, 1894. William, the man on the right, was born May 10, 1900. William is buried in Rye. At the bottom "Uncle Fred and Uncle Wm Detta" is written.

This is a studio portrait of William Detta. Mr. William Detta's parents and their seven children emigrated from Germany in 1884. William married Clara Schneider and built on the old family homestead, in the 1920s, a hunting lodge known as "Deer Lake Lodge." This picture is likely copy of a tintype.

Julius Detta was born in Hettstedt, Germany September 28th, 1842. He died July 23rd, 1911. He is buried in Lount. Louisa Detta Sohm was born September 2nd, 1870. She died April 13th 1955. She is buried in Eagle Lake Cemetery. This looks like a copy of a tin type taken at a professional's studio.
