In this section we will be looking at the families who have lived in South River. They have been arranged in alphabetical order and by date.

In this first picture we see H. O. Boorse, who was an immigrant from Culpsville, Pennsylvania. He came to South River when he was twenty. He married Annie Cole, of South River, in 1885. H. O. was a clerk at the West End Supply Depot. In the end though, H. O. moved his family to Alberta in 1906.

Katie Bottomley (1881-1971) is the daughter of Thomas and Ellen Bottomley, who emigrated from England and settled in Machar township in 1885. Katie inherited her family's homestead from her parents. She worked on the farm with her brother, Tom. They sold it in the 1940s.

This is a studio portrait of William Detta. Mr. William Detta's parents and their seven children emigrated from Germany in 1884. William married Clara Schneider and built on the old family homestead, in the 1920s, a hunting lodge known as "Deer Lake Lodge." This picture is likely copy of a tintype.

Christian Dunker is the elderly man in the centre. He was born in 1834, he immigrated from Germany. He died in 1906. There isn't any information on the other people in the photograph.

A photograph of the Erven's on their family farm. The Erven family has been in Canada since the 1850s, with some of the Erven children still residing in the South River area. The Erven farm was located on Concession 5.

A colour photograph of Grandpa and Grandma Gore standing inside a home, in front of a white anniversary cake. The Gore's pictured are possibly Jack and Frances Gore, who lived 5 miles outside of South River.
