Refrigerate tightly wrapped for 3 days or frozen for 3 months. 2 cups allâ€"purpose flour 11/2 tbsp granulated sugar 1% tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp salt 1 tbsp solid vegetable shortening 3/4 cup milk About 2 cups vegetable oil for frying Confectioners sugar Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is fine crumbs. Stir in milk until blended and dough forms a ball. Divide dough in half; shape each piece into a ball. Flatten into 1â€"inch thick rounds. Let stand 10 minutes to allow dough to relax. Lightly flour rolling pin and roll out 1/2 the dough to a 12x8 inch rectangle. Let rolled dough stand 10 minutes. With a sharp knife cut dough into Z-inch squares. Repeat with remaining dough. Squares may be covered with plastic wrap and refrigerated overnight. Heat 1 inch of oil in a 11/2 qt saucepan over mediumâ€"high heat (365°F). Carefully add 3 or 4 squares of dough to the oil. In about 3.0 seconds they will puff up and float to the top. Turn them over and fry another 30 seconds or until golden. Drain on paper towels and dust with confectioners sugar. Serve warm or at room «7 r H“ r. t r? t ’ temperature.
