Description
Black and white photograph of stone crusher in Portland, Ontario around 1910.There were no gravel deposits in Bastard Twp. but lots of sedimentary limestone. As part of their statute labour some farmers would quarry and pile stone in cords. It would later be crushed to be make roads. My mother recalled her father, Hiram Woods and his brother Arden getting out stone for this purpose. (Note from Keith Sly)
