Following up the capital example of the Oddfellows in calling their friends in for a night’s pleasure, the Ancient Order of United Workmen secured the use of the magnificent lodge room of the Oddfellows to hold an at home on Monday night last (Jan. 27) and invited about three hundred people to be present and participate in a night of social enjoyment. The hall was more than filled with many of the best people of the town, and if any did not enjoy themselves they were either personally to blame or else badly constituted for this life. The Highland Club orchestra was present and gave a fine programme of music; and between times speeches were delivered by Messrs. D. Ormiston, H. B. Taylor, Reeve King, Senator Long, A. G. Henderson, Dr. McGillivray and others. Refreshments were on the board all the evening and were freely patronized. Card tables were placed in all parts of the hall, and other games were also laid out. The enjoyment closed about midnight, and all went home happy.
