(PCB) destruction facilities. PCBs are a class of synthetic organic chemicals that do not decompose easily and which accumulate in living organisms. There is a growing inventory of wastes in storage because there are no currently approved destruction facilities in Canada. Mobile destruction facilities may be brought to those Ontario communities where the bulk of PCB wastes are awaiting disposal. The proposals for regulation of these facilities will be submitted to a public hearing under the Public Inquiries Act. Prior to the hearing, the Ministry is inviting public comment on the proposals. Information will be made available in a series of public information sessions to be held in the 18 communities in Ontario where approvals for the use of such facilities is most likely to be requested. The regulatory proposals set out the requirements under which mobile PCB destruction facilities will be permitted to locate and operate in communities in Ontario. The public's views are invited.
