Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, April 11, 1984, page Community News AEP TS Day of Bread by Sharyn Legall Our Day of Bread began with Mass at 9 a.m. Mrs. Val Pater- son (BHE) a well known speaker in our diocese on Practical Christian- ity was our guest speak- er for the day. Val led us in prayer and we sang "'I am the Bread of Life."' We each received a booklet with a Cracked Wheat recipe, the hymns "I am the Bread of Life" and "One Bread One Body", scripture verses, bread blessings and space pro- vided for our own re- flections. We were seat- ed in a circle and Val had arranged sheaves of wheat, a bible, a lighted candle on a red cloth, with a loaf of bread in the centre of our circle; illustrating how Jesus is the light of the world; and His word and being, the bread of life. All ingredients for the making of the bread had been laid out on big tables, so we worked in pairs, bringing our own bowl, wooden spoon, tea towel and apron with us. Val asked us to work in silence as she led us in the meditation of adding each ingredient, re- flecting, through pray- er, to our own attitudes and dispositions, how they compare to the coarseness, sweetness, of the ingredients. How some of us require more kneading than others to break through to anoth- er person. By our own attitudes and disposi- tions, we can bring joy, | gladness or hurt to our neighbour. We must al- ways try to be kind and loving to really try to love the hard to love person, to strive to break the barriers with soaking love! Jesus, our Bread of Life, calls each of us to bring His love and healing to each oth- er. It was beautiful how Val, in the making of bread, taught us how, in the ingredients, knead- ing, and preparation, we can live the Beatitudes and apply this to be ef- fective in our way of living each day. Delores read the bread blessing and the bread was put to rise. We broke for a de- licious lunch. As the bread was put in the ovens we had quiet time to pray, read scripture or reflect on the day. We broke the baked bread with each other, passed it to one another extending to this person a prayer or blessing. To close we went up- stairs to the Church to say the Apostles' Creed, the Our Father, and the Prayer for the Holy Year. We ended the day with the hymn 'One Bread, One Body." We sang the "Blessing of the Lord' over Val. We were not many in number, only 12 of us, with Father Pottie, join- ing us for lunch making 13. As. Marylyn. said "What. we lacked in numbers, we made up for in spirit.'"" Marylyn thanked Val and pre- - sented her with a CWL Plate. Special thanks to Lilli- an and her team and Gertie for a delicious lunch, to Maria for her help with the ovens, Kathleen our photo- gtapher, to Joe for the donation of the yeast, to Father Pottie who shared our lunch and led us in grace, to all who participated in any way to making this a suc- cessful day. We pray that our Lord may continue to bless Val for sharing with us. her- talents and_her- self. Duplicate Bridge Duplicate bridge was held Friday March 30, 1984 at Holy Angels School in Schreiber.
