Commisso GUNNAR VINTERS WIN O'KEEFE TOURNAMENT The Third Annual Fastball Tournament went off in grand style on the weekend in Schreiber with 26 home runs hit. In the first draw Marathon defeated Heron Bay I8 to 0 as Ruoy Barton drove in 6 runs. Dick Mannisto lead Schreiber Mayfair to a 2-I win over Nipigon International with a 3 hitter 15 strikeouts and a 2 run homer. Paced by a one hitter by Darryl Ross and 3 homers Klomp Wakefield defeated Red Rock 8 to O.. A.3 run homer by Ray Meservia proved the difference as Gunnar Vinters subdued Murillo 6-3. Ross- lyn Brickmen defeated Westfort 5-4 on the strength of a 2 run homer by Al Nalezyty. McLeod Cartage clubbed Nipigon Ovilio 7-I be- hind the 3 hit pitching of Larry Zweep. All losing teams moved the the "B" event. In the first game of this draw, Nipigon Inter- national beat Heron Bay 7-2 with Bruce Jeremy hitting a grand slam home run. Outstanding pitching by Harvey Dunville brought Red Rock a I-0 win over Murillo. Westfort Hotel pound- ed out I5 hits to defeat Nipigon Ovilio 9 to 6 Westfort moved to the finals of "B" event by stomping Red Rock I0-2 with John Miller hitt- ing an inside the park homer. Bruce Jeremy's 2 run triple broke up a scoreless dual as Nip- igon International won the "B" Championship with a 5 to 2 win over Westfort. In the "A" event, Schreiber Mayfair thrash- ed Marathon 8-0 on a 2 hitter by Dick Mannisto Al Borgo hit a home run double and triple leading Gunnar Vinters to a 5-1 victory over Klomp Wakefield. A 6th inning 3 run homer by Keith Allen brought McLeod Cartage from be- hind, to a 3-I victory over Rosslyn Brickmen. I973 Graduates of Lake Superior High School Gunnar Vinters moved to the finals by de- feating McLeod Cartage 6-3 with Bob Smith and Al Borgo hitting back to back homeruns. The big "AY championship game featured a pair of 2 five hitters by Dick Mannisto and Jack Byerley with Byerley's bat proving the difference with 2 two run homers leading Gunnar Vinters Real- tors to a 5-2 victory over Schreiber Mayfair Hotel. Ted Winters homered for Mayfair. The winning team won $300.00 and the losing team $150.00. "Jack Byerley won the Most Valuable Player Award.
