- An article written by local columnist Dorothy Eedy titled "Importance of publishing weekly paper during wartime: The memoirs of Lorne Eedy Sr. continue". In this article, Eedy writes about her father-in-law Lorne Eedy Sr. and his series of articles called "Dear Mr. Editor" which acted as memoirs of his time working as the editor for the Journal-Argus. He wrote the memoirs in 1946.
The article gives details on the publishing of the local paper during World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945). During WWI, there was a lack of hired help, as a result it became necessary for publishers to purchase a linotype (machine used for printing). The role of the local papers changed drastically during wartime. Parts of letters sent home from the front lines were published weekly and news on the location and health of local men serving in the military was regularly reported on.
