History of Rosseau Stonemasonry and Related Trades
Some changes in the last 25 - 30 years that have impacted the trade:
•government red tape •increased requirements to comply to building codes after 1980 and more inspections by municipal inspectors •increased involvement by architects, engineers, home decorators that dictate design etc. •increased enforcement of job site safety, ie. clothing, scaffolds, dust control etc. •availability of new tools and equipment, eg. diamond saws, guillotines, mechanical mortar mixers, mortar guns, ready mix concrete & pumpers and of course smart phones and computers. •local natural stone quarries and masonry supply co. able to to provide greater range of products, eg improved cement mixes, thin stone, saw cut flagstone, guillotine cut stones, incl limestone, sandstone, more shapes and colours. •large range of manufactured products - culture stone, sholdice, “Too Many Choices” •Increase of Retail stores in the area with greater variety of manufactured, factory built, zero clearance fireplaces and metal chimneys or gas/ propane units •Homeowners insurance companies that increasingly require WETT inspections for older existing wood burning appliances and chimney systems and new installations by WETT certified technicians.
