- Description
- Black and white photograph of the exterior of J. Tune & Son, on York Street between Talbot and Richmond showing the building front and side. Two men pose in a doorway while a third man stands at the base of the steps at the front of the building. A driver in a wagon with a four horse team of grays waits to the right of the building. In the background can be seen a possible extension of the front building and behind that a wooden shed with a wagon wheel propped up against its wall.
- Notes
- The inscription which does not appear on the digital copy was added in 1939. An advertisement that accompanies the original photograph gives the address as 145 and 147 York Street (south side) and lists an alternative name for the company: London Soda Water Works. The products listed are: ginger ale, double soda, plain soda, cream soda, lemon soda, sarsaparilla, crab apple champagne cider, phosphated champagne sherbet, standard nerve food, buffalo mead, pure apple cider, St. Leon mineral water and Georgian Springs mineral water. The 1890 City of London directory also lists James & Charles Tune living at 128 York Street in the same block but on the north side of the street and the Soda Works at 145 York Street, on the south side. The Fire Insurance Plans for London, 1892 edition updated to 1907, shows the J. Tune & Son, London Soda Water Factory at 132-134 York Street, north side.
