    The brick Morton General store was built about 1855 by village entrepeneur and namesake George Morton. It passed through a number of owners but was still operating as a store as late as 1990.

    Gordon Smith's store in Lombardy c.1958. It was owned before by Michael Dooher, William McSpadden, Clarence Hogan and Percy Jones. On the far right was the cheese factory. The highway in 1958 passed

    Tentatively identifed as J.R. Dargavel but definitely a storekeeper in Elgin c.1905.

    James Williams ran a general store in Newboro on Drummond Street. The 1931 Census shows him living in the village at that time.

    Lola Williams (later Hunter) was a daughter of James and Sarah Williams who ran a general store in Newboro on Drummond Street.
