On Friday evening, January 11, the Chaffey's Lock Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Janice Cross with the opening statement being: We‘re starting a New Year , so let's look at our good and bad days." The Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect were repeated, followed by a stimulating roll call â€" “Happiness is . . what makes you happy?" This was followed by a shorter discussion on the mottw "happiness doesn't depend on what yOu have or what you are, it depends solely on what you THINK." Business session was conducted by the president, Mary Warren. It was decided that one fund raising event each month would be planned until April to help pay for the new addition to the hall. The euchre nights would be continued each Thurs. On Feb. 23rd at 6 p.m. in the hall a supper and bingo will be held. A very interesting paper by Mrs. Janice Cross entitled “Biorhythms - why you have good and bad days" was very thought-provoking and helpful. The subject of fitness was thought about and discussed. "People who have no time don't think. The more you think the more time you have". The question put to all was "how do you make spare time for yourself and did you ever think of using it to make yourself more fit?" The hostesses, Hazel Jarrett and Janice Cross served delicious refresh- ments at the close of this enjoyable evening. 1 M > I .I 1 HELP YOUR U unox d13H Pat‘s fabrics L‘RNDHUKST .928 â€" 2.053 MON THRU SAT 9 â€" 5:30 Watch for our lst Anniversary Specials â€" March 6th, 7th & 8th. Barb Purdy, Social Chairman, made final plans for our Christmas Social and variOus projects were discussed for our Founder's Day dinner. Everyone enjoyed participating in Marcia's program of covering Styro- foam balls and then decorating them. Our Christmas social at Helen McEwen‘s started with a gorgeous international pot luch supper. All dishes were numbered and the country of origin and name of the dish had to be guessed. After Supper Barb Bakker inducted Sharon Horsefield, Judy Horsfall, Nancy Sheffield, Marilyn Sheldon all of Portland and Carol Stanyar, Westport into Beta Sigma Phi with their pledge ritual. Jan Haskin's ritual of jewels followed. Everyone settled down around the Christmas tree and a visit from jolly young Santa followed.
