DELTA UNITED CHURCH On a delightful Autumn Sun- day, with the beauty and colour of nature, the sparkling waters of Upper Beverley Lake and evidences of God's presence all around, Delta United Church held their Anniversary Services with Reverend Grant Richardson officiating. In 1828 the first Methodist minister visited Delta, then Beverley, coming from Kingston on horseback and preaching in the school at frequent interâ€" vals. From 1845 to 1874 Delta was part of the Crosby charge. In 1862â€"1863 a white brick church was built, serving the Methodists until it was re- placed by the present church in 1888. The guest minister was Dr. W. Franklin Banister of Kingâ€" ston. Dr. Banister has capably served God and the Church in a variety of ways, informally by being an approachable caring person. His Scripture reading was the story of "seven loaves and a few little fishes." When this meagre offering was dedicated to God, great things followed. The minister said, "God has given to each person a loaf of life which can be spent for the good of mankind and to the Glory of God or it can be wasted." The challenge of Christ was convincingly presented through Dr. Banister's unforgettable sermon. New choir books were presented to the church by Mrs. David Halladay and dedicated in the memory of Noah Halladay and Gary R. Cook, the gift of Mr. & Mrs. David Halladay and family. Heart felt prayers were offered for the sorrowing families of the young victims of the weekâ€"end tragedy in this community. As always the service was greatly ens riched by the music of the choir singing "Great is Jehovah", and the morning worship was brought to a glorious finale with the choir singing "The Great Parade." Mrs. Glenn Chant is choir leader and organist. At the evening service music lovers were thrilled with the outstanding renditions of sacred and other well loved numbers by the male quartet, the River City Rascals of Brockville. They also led in most enjoyable congregational singing. A joyous social hour followed the service, when the male quartet guests again delighted the congregation with several requested numbers closing with their unforget- table rendition of "Now The Day is Over." Refreshments were served by the ladies of the U.C.W. were enjoyed. Again this congregation has given thanks to Almighty God for the Faith and Zeal of the pioneers who built this church, which has stood through the long years as a beacon of Faith, pointing men and women to a way of life that is Life indeed.
