M 'Elgin Friendship Club On October 3rd, eighty-two persvns including the Friend- ship Club and many friends from other areas filled two buses of the Howard Bus Line and enjoyed a day viewing the lovely autumn colours. The colouring was at its best and though the day was dull the colo rs were vivid and beautiful. grey left Elgin at 8:30 a.m. and stopped at the shopping centre in Ottawa for lunch. After driving around Ottawa to see some of the many old historical buildings they crossed over the Ottawa River into Hull and from there on into the Gatineau Park with its lovely hills and colouring. The buses st0pped at the Mac- kenzie King Estate and again at Champlain's Look Out. After returning to Ottawa, they came home by Rideau Ferry where a delicious dinner was awaiting them. When the crowd reached Elgin they all agreed it had been a delightful day. Much apprecâ€" iation went to Reverend Seeley who made arrangements for the trip and to the kind and courâ€" teous bus drivers who did so much to add to the pleasure of the passengers. The Friendship Club held its October meeting in the Seniors' Room October 10th. Reverend Seeley opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and offering prayer. The Queen was su g with Mrs. Seeley accompan'ng on the piano. Mrs. Maybelle Hughson read the minutes of the September meeting, they were adopted. Miss Eliza Gray read the Treasurer's report. The members were pleased to know that their finances were in good standing. Colbert, who gave a very interesting talk on the proposed project of erecting an apartment building in Elgin for Senior Citizens. Everyone was pleased to get this inforâ€" mation and showed much enthus- iasm. Mr. Seeley thanked the speaker. Mr. George Hughson was nominated to fill the vacancy for President. It was decided to have only a business meeting November 14th and then to go to the United Church Bazaar for lunch. Mr. Seeley read a thank you note from the family of Mary Glover Fraser. A silence was observed in her honour. A good crowd attended this meeting and they sat down to enjoy a good lunch with con- versation. The students at South Crosby Public School submitted posters they had made using fire prevention as their theme. 125 entries and the judging was done by the department members. There was a first and second prize in each class. First Prize was a silver dollar and second prize was a fifty cent piece.
