NORTH LEEDS LANTERN Newboro News OASWT Meet at Grace Church The Gananoque and district branch of the Ontario Association of Superannuated Women Teachers met for their spring meeting on May 2 at Grace United Church, Gananoque. President, Mrs. Helen Prosser, Gananoque, welcomed the members and lighted one candle indicating the first anniversary of this branch which began May 2, 1978. Meeting was opened with singing of "0 Canada" with Mrs. Kathryn Scott at piano, and with the Lord's Prayer. A new member, Helen Burtch of Jones Falls was welcomed. Minutes were read by Mrs. Hilda Cardiff, of Lyndhurst. Members learned with regret of the death of Mrs. Vera Maxwell, Seeley's Bay. The president gave an interesting resume of the branch's activities since its inception in 1978 and list of officers mentioning Mrs. Stella Cheetham is director of our area. Treasurer Mrs. Doris Potter gave her report to date. Correspondence included an app- reciative letter from A/Capt. Ken Wood, Gananoque Branch of Salvation Army, thanking the group for gifts sent at Christmas. An invitation was received from Director Stella Cheetham to hold a noon potluck picnic in July at her cottage,(July 11 was chosen as the date). It was also decided to hold a dinner meeting in the fall. A social committee for each group having the meeting was to be chosen locally. A trip was discussed and left for further consideration. Some thought was also given to donation of a card table to Carveth Care Unit. The program for the afternoon was a very excellent presentation of coloured slides of Newfoundland by Mr. Paul Harding who was introduced by Mrs. S. Cheetham, and thanked by Mrs. Doris Potter. The slides and interesting comments displayed a great variety of points of interest from all parts of Newfoundland. All members of Council were present. Minutes of April meeting were accepted as read. Rita Taylor was appointed as dog control by-law enforcer. On a motion by Monck & Walker, it was agreed that the clerk be authorized to purchase a printing calculator. On a motion by Monck and Brus, Parks Canada will be invited to a meeting with Newboro Council re Newboro Lock- station on June 20th 1979. Bills in the amount of $3,473.32 were passed for payment. w A meeting was held on May 7, l979 with all members present. Correspondence was read. On a motion by Walker and Monck, it was agreed that any hydro service that is disconnected for non payment only be reconnected during regular work time. If customer requests re- connection at any other hour then they must pay actual truck and labour costs. This must be paid in cash to the Sec- retary-Treasurer or a member of the commission prior to the truck leaving Perth. Bill must also be paid as above. On a motion by Walker and Monck, a power bill of $3,804.00 and charges for service bill of $l,023.49 were paid. DID YOU KNOW...
