PORTLAND _ PICKIN’S Rideau Centennial School Students in Mrs. Fournier's class have recently completed a project for the Portland Library. James Hennessey, Peter& Derrick Vanderschuit, Rosita Pollock, Narty Smith, Treena Macham and Charlene Thorne designed posters for the library's monthly theme. Many thanks! The School Committee and interested parents met April lst to discuss the proposed teach- ing ratios being examined by the Board. Albrief was draft- ed and presented to the Educaâ€" tion Committee by Rev. Vern MacPherson on April 2nd. The following Monday, the Board met in the Brockville Collegiate with the auditorium filled to capacity with parents and teachers. Our brief, along with 23 others, was presented again and the Board voted for the "equalized formula" we had been pushing for. - Yrs. Lynne Evans and her com- mittee met this week to organâ€" ize our second annual Fun Fair. The entire community is invited to attend on Friday, May 25th 6230-9 p.m. at Rideau Centennial School, Portland. A variety of events will be offered inside and outside (weather permitting) including pony rides. There will be various tables with used books, toys, candy, and odds & ends for sale. The kitchen will be selling hot dogs & pop. The Portland Cubs and the Craft Clubs from the school will have a display table. The fish pond and cake walk will both be in full swing‘ again this year. Plan to attend and bring your children _for an evening of fun! Marie Sharp welcomed two guests, Jan Haskins, Philipsville and Chris Mills, Portland. Various committee reports were given on ongoing projectsâ€" aid to burned out families, the Breast Self-Examination Clinic and our Annual Fashion Show. Social plans were made for March, April and May. Barb Purdy gave her final report on sorority's involveâ€" ment in the home maker service and subsequent formation of a sub-branch of the Red Cross. Marcia Nightingales program on life styles and living practices brought forth a good deal of group discussion. Judy Timpany opened her home for our second meeting in March. Sylvia reported ads have been running in the Westport and Rideau Valley Mirror for the Breast Self-Examination Clinic. The North Leeds Lantern will run one ad at the end of the month. Pat Little passed out posters for our "Spring Fever" Fashion Show. Kevin Guthrie has agreed to play a piano or organJand we are hoping to decorate with light bulbs and plants. Roma Wing showed slides on a recent trip and gave out souveniers to each member. We enjoyed a sample of a local rum drink with appropriate music playing in the backâ€" ground. Eta Tau's first April meeting was in Seeley’s Bay at Marcia Nighingales. Election of officers was conducted by Marie Shard president. Founder's Day will be spent with sorority sisters from the Prescott, Brockville, Gananoque area meeting for supper in Kemptville. Final plans were made for the B.S.E. Clinic this month and the fashion show next month. Pat Little will be doing the commentary with fashions from Dorie's Den. Ruth Pedherney's program illustrated the hopeful rights, set down for children by the United Nations General Assembly. Pamphlets were available from the Eastern Ontario Library System on books and films for preâ€"school children through the teen age years.
