And to mark the occasion, the North Leeds subâ€"branch to the Brockville Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society, is opening a Homemaker Service next week. The new Red Croas Service will be the only one of its kind in the area. The Homemaker Service will operate out of the Portland residence of Mrs. Sharon Stedman. Mrs. Stedman has been named Homemaker Supervisor for the new Service. She currently has three Home- makers under her direction and has hopes of increasing the number to ten sometime soon. The Red Cross Homemaker Service is designed to meet a broad range of individual and family needs in a time of crisis or where illness and dis- ability are involved. Red Cross Home- makers are trained individuals who can step in to keep the home functioning smoothly. The Homemaker Service helps senior citizens remain in familiar surroundings by allowing them to remain in their own homes, instead of being institutionalized. In times of family crisis the Homemaker can contribute greatly by allowing the children to remain in their homes as well, rather than having them placed in temporary foster homes. The Homemaker is also trained to assist with children who require Special care, and can con- tribute substantially to their re- habilitation through decreasing their insacurity and anxiety. The Red Cross Homemaker Service may become essential to the Wellâ€"being of almost any family at any time, and, therefore, is not limited to any single social or economic group. Families who require assistance may be subsidized by the Ontario Ministries of Health or Community and Social Services. Where that is not possible, Red Cross may offer partial assistance to those who require the Service but cannot afford to pay the full cost, through the United Way or Red Cross Campaigns. For more information about the new Red Cross Homemaker Service contact Mrs. Sharon Stedman at 272-2100. The new executive of the North Leeds Branch of the Red Cross is as follows: ‘00 Chairpersons â€"â€" Joan Tallen and ileana Blair Secretary - Barb Purdy Treasurer â€" Ken Fuller Directors: Jack Monck Dorothy Clarke Marion Thompson A special note of thanks to Shirley Green who initiated and administered the service for 1 year, and established its need.
