NORTH LEEDS LANTERN .‘ ~ . ELGIN FRIENDSHIP CLUB The Friendship Club held its regular monthly meeting in the meeting room. Rev. Seeley preâ€" sided. He opened the meeting with a prayer. Mrs. Maybelle Hughson, Secretary, read the minutes of the May meeting which were adopted as read. ‘ It was with much regret the members heard from Mr. Seeley that Duncan and Marilyn MacLennan and family plan to leave Elgin in July. Duncan has accepted a position as Principal of Kapus- kasing District High School. It was Marilyn MacLennan who worked very hard to organize the Senior Citizens of this locality and she was present the day the Friendship Club held its first meeting. She was always ready to entertain the club by bring- ing her musical classes from the South Crosby Public School. While the Friendship Club extends to the MacLennan family best wishes in their new adven- ture, the members are very sorry to see them go. It was decided the Club would take a boat trip July 18th. on the Rideau Waterway, from Portland to Jones Falls. A meeting will be held July llth. to finalize plans. A number of people were nominated for President to replace the late Phonse Donovan, but no one was selected. Some games were played and a pleasant social hour was spent over a delicious pot luck lunch. Renovations ’1 Nursery School The children, mothers and staff of the Elgin and District Co-operative Nur- sery School enjoyed closing day at the home of Jason and Renee St. Pierre.
