WINTER WONDERLAND WEEK-END Once again the Elgin Community Centre Committee and the residents of the village and surrounding area experien- ced a successful exercise in community co-operation. Large numbers of skaters, skiers, snowmobilers and watchers of all ages enjoyed the week-end of outdoor activity. Elsa Emmons' group conducted the Worship service on the theme: "Turning a New Page". "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past" was sung, followed by a reading on opporâ€" tunities for the New Year. Points to remember were: to be determin- ed to do better, to ask for.Divine guidance, to resolve to serve God, and to trust God to help. The ofâ€" fering was received and dedicated, and the worship concluded with a hymn and a prayer. The business meeting follow- ed with the presentation of the annual statement by Janet Mills, and annual reports from secreâ€" taries of committees. Loree Smith reported that World Day of Prayer leaflets had arrived and she dis- tributed the Mandates. Mr. Seeley installed the ofâ€" ficers for 1979 with Sandra as President and Nina Churchill as Viceâ€"President. The 1979 budget was presented by Janet for appro- val by the group. Sandra announcâ€" ed that the annual Presbyterial meeting would be held Tuesday, March 6th, in Edith Rankin Memorâ€" ial Church, Collins Bay. Doug Bond will be guest speakâ€" er at the next meeting and will show films. Sandra gave each member a Icopy of the "Ten Commandments for the U.C.W." which had been pre- pared for the installation of Presbyterial officers at Bowman- ville. The site is being sold to Youngtown Industries Ltd.,headed by Eldon Coon of Delta. They plan to erect a twoâ€"storey building. Eight ground floor units are to be available for senior citizens, with rent geared to income.The ground floor will also include a common room for use of residents. Ten units on the top floor will be let to the public. The Ministry of Housing is hedging on whether the population density of South Crosby warrants a senior citizen housing project. In a Ministry survey,some resiâ€" dents did express interest in seeing such apartments available. The proportion of residents over 65 is higher than average in North Leeds. Youngtown Industries hopes to get approval in time to build in the spring.Anyone interested in these apartments is asked to call the township office at 359â€"5830.
