page 8 II Women’s Institute The Delta Women's Institute meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Audrey Talbot, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Vera Sheridan was assistant hostess. Eleven members were present. Mrs. Talbot presided and opened with the singing of the Opening It was pointed out that for the first time in its 117 year history, the Ontario Veterinary College had admitted more women than men for this study. The meeting then closed with the Royal Anthem and delicious lunch was served. DELTA UNITED CHURCH Mrs. Eva Wiltse was hostess on March 12 of the Delta United Church Women, Ten Ladies and one visitor Mrs. Florence Malony. She read "Give Lavishly, Live Ode, and reciting of the Institute Collect. Minutes were read and correspondance dealt with, including a letter from the Red Cross Society and an invitation to attend a Country Time Lunch and Bazaar at Spring Valley Community Hall, April 12, also notice of a short course, “Interior Design" at the Anglican Church Hall, Athens, March 25. Several members planned to attend both events, as well as the Executive meeting in Phillipsâ€" ville March 2ch. Mrs. Miriam Bryan, Edie Stankiewicz and Vera Sheridan were named as nomination committee for the Annual meeting in April. The motto is keeping with the theme Agriculture and Canadian Industries, entitled "Honest Labour Disgraces No One", was discussed and a poem by Henry Van Dyke, "Gospel of Labour" was read by Mrs. Laura Russel. In Roll Call, "A Canadian Industry our Grandmothers did Not Know", Mrs. Stankiewicz read an article entitled "Ain't Modern Science Grand?" and members mentioned many inventions our ancestors never lived to enjoy, but which we take for granted today. Mrs. Miriam Bryan reported on the meeting of the Canadian Cancer Society of the Rideau District Branch which she had attended recently. A film was shown entitled "We Can Help" and another film on a patient who had recovered from a masectomy and how to overcome problems resulting from the operation. Mrs. C. Landon was guest Speaker and offered to provide films and visual aids and posters for schools and women's organiza- tions. The Beta Sigma Phi club is sponsoring a sale of daffodils to help the research of cancer, and everyone is urged to buy OIle. Mrs. Bryan then passed around pamphlets on the subject and was thanked for her interesting report. A donation of money was moved for the Red Cross Society. Mrs. Edie Stankiewicz, Convener of Agriculture and Canadian Industries, read several articles from a Country Journal on how older homes are changed to conserve energy and make use of solar heat. She also read that farmers can get income tax deductions for attendâ€" ing farm conferences and for wages paid to a child whose work is contributing to the farm income and help for the fruit and vegetable producers and in building storage warehouses. An Apple a Day school prog- ram was started in Nova Scotia in 1975 and resulted in the consumption of A million apples. Mrs. Edith Woods was in charge of the Worship service on the theme â€" Gentleness. We sang a verse of Safe in the Arms of Jesus, with Mrs. Irma Chant at the piano. Mrs. Lena Henderson read the scripture of James 3. The meditation was based on Isiah 40. 21. Even the very word gentleness has a subduing, quietening, soothing effect upon us. Our Lord was gentle, meek, and lowly at heart. Offering was received by Mrs. Woods and dedicated by Mrs. Chant. Roll call was answered by reporting 12 hospital and 10 home calls made. The minutes were read by Mrs. Hilda Cardiff. Treasurer Chant gave the financial report. Mrs. Wiltse then reported on cards and treats. She circulated a thankyou card from Mrs. Kloss in appreciation of a get well card. The Easter Thank offering service was discussed. It was decided that sister organizations are to be invited to this service on April 9 at 8:00 p.m. in the United Hall. There will be a guest Speaker. The programmer in charge is Mrs. Chant. She read a very interesting article by a missionary, Rev. Ron Wallace, "What it is Like to be a Christian in Japan." Before we realize we must experience these conditions. Mrs. Woods closed with the Benediction. DELTA MILL SOCIETY The Delta Mill Society held a planning meeting on March 10 at the home of Mrs. Miriam Bryan. Mr. Ross Stone presided. It was decided to open the Old Stone Mill in Delta on Sunday April 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the Maple Syrup Festival.
