page 10 F'â€" I I THE TOWNSHIP OF SOUTH CROSBY OFFICE OF THE CLERK â€" TREASURER ELGIN - ONTARIO KOG lEO WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The World Day of Prayer service was held in the Elgin United Church on March 7th, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. with approximately 45â€"50 people attending from the surrounding churches in Eflgin. Mrs. Nina Churchill, the U.C.w. President, opened the programme with a poem, then welcomed the participating church members and visitors. Special guest speaker, Mrs. A. Hague, from the Grenville Christian College in Brockville, gave an inspiring and thoughtful speech relating to the World Day of Prayer theme - "Res- ponsible Freedom". She was introduced by Ms. Marjorie Zarl, and Mrs. Catherine Scott appropriately thanked the speaker and presented her with a St. Patrick's plaque. Also taking part in the programme were some young people from South Crosby Public School, and the Elgin United Junior Choir along with their choir leader, Barbara Patterson and accompanist, Eleanor Earl. Their participation added a great deal and all was appreciated. Father O'Neill of St. Columbanus Church closed the programme with dedication. Lunch was enjoyed following the programme in the Centennial Hall. ********************«* ELGIN U. C. W. The regular meeting of the Elgin U.C.W. on March 11th met at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Hall for a brief business meeting since the unit had been invited to join the Elgin C.W.L. at Rideau District High School. The President Nina Churchill opened the meeting with the poem "Easter Needs"o The minutes and roll call, with 7 persons present, were read and approvedo Immediate business was taken care of and Nina closed the meetâ€" ing with a reading. The group then joined the C.W.L. at R.D.H.S. to listen to their special guest from Brockville discuss "Abortion" a proâ€"life organization for the Right to Life and watch the filmo Mrs. Catherine Scott thanked the speaker on the informative discussiono Lunch and fellowâ€" ship was then enjoyed by all. The meeting open- ed with the singing of O Canada with Catherine Scott at the piano. Reverend Seeley gave the opening prayer and later read a Eulogy to Madeline Glover. Catherine Scott spoke of what a wonderful friend Mrs. Glover had been during her years of teaching. Catherine sang two songs in remembrance of Mrs. Glover, one of which was "Beyond the Sunset".
