ELGIN & DISTRICT COOPERATIVE NURSERY SCHOOL, INC. Valentine parties for the Junior & Senior groups highlighted the month of February. The children exchanged Valen- tines and enjoyed cookies made in class with the assistance of their teachers. A trip to the sugar bush is being planned. At a recent meeting of parents, dates were set for special events in April. An invitation is extended to all mem- bers of the community to an evening (8 p.m.) meeting on Mon..April 14 at the Nursery School which is located in the Elgin United Church. Both staff and parents of children enrolled will be present to explain the aims and op- eration of the school. Area residents are also invited to visit a regular nursery school class in session at the Annual Open House on Tuesday, April 22 from 1:30 to 3 P.m. CHAFFEY'S LOCK W.I. Valentines Day found 19 ladies in the home of Kathryn Scott for the Feb. meeting. Marjorie Jackson brought a very interesting paper on "The Status of Currency and How Political Disâ€" turbances of World Countries Effect It". Informative brochures were given to each lady and a question and answer period followed. For roll call each person brought a small article from a foreign country and told how they had received it. Our motto for the day was "My house is small, no mansion for a millionâ€" aire, but there is room for love, and there is room for friends, that's all I care". Announcements and business were handled by Pres. Mary Warren. A stitch- ery course is being planned. The Senior Citizens invited the W.I. mem- bers to a luncheon -â€"their husbands also included. A filing cabinet was purchased for our hall. The Lock- master House is to be prepared for a museum and hopefully opened in 1982 to celebrate 150 years since the canal opened. Plans for our fund raising events were discussed. Information regarding the heart fund was distributed and contributions received. Fun was had doing a contest on "Scram- bled Countries“. The prize was won by Susan Lukits. Hazel Jarrett won the prize for the marked cup. Hostesses for this meeting were Kathryn Scott, Marjorie Jackson and Jeanne McIntyre. Janice Cross thanked the ladies for a splendid meeting. The new presâ€" ident, Nina Churchill displayed a table centerpiece with a red candle, a large heart and a rose while explaining that these represented the light of the world, Valentine's Day, and love. The meeting opened with a poem, "The World is Mine". The worship group presented the theme "Love" with scripture reading "Faith, hope and love" â€"â€" and the greatest of them all is love, followed by prayer. A meditation reading was read, "A Language that Everyone Understands" followed by hymn #488 Wonderful Love. Worship ended with prayer. The study group presented the World Development and relief material and pointed out where relief has been sent throughout the world and how relief has been used. The film, "By Your Giving â€" You Are There" showed several areas helping others whether it be poor, famine,or floods. Following the film, it was decided to give $100 to World Development and Relief. The business minutes were read by the Secretary, Mrs. Anna Charland. A Leprosy Mission request and literature was read explaining the work accom- plished at the Mission for steward- ship. The Social Convenor, Mrs. Reta Ereeman showed a revised price list for luncheons, banquets, etc. and ask- ed for approval. The World Day of Prayer in March will be held at the Elgin United Church, All Elgin churches will participate and everyone will be welcome to take part in this world-wiJ; prayer. The Presbyterial Annual will be held March 4th at Brockville Wall Street Church. Several are expected to attend the meeting. The meeting ended with prayer and almmh ‘_â€"â€"Iâ€"â€". Roll call was "How to maintain an image of the Women's Institute". Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved, and new business was dealt with. The Fish Fry will be held on Apr. 11th if nothing goes wrong and we can get the fish. The Executive meeting will be held on Mar. 14th. A request and form is to be sent in with regards to an interior decorating course given by the Dept. of AgriCulture. Dates will be announced later, and anyone inter- ested will be able to attend. A paper on Hamish people was read by Mrs. Stone, telling of their ways & 'describing their dress, work and reâ€" ligion. Mrs. Stone had a reading on Helen Kellar. The Royal Anthem closed this part of the meeting. A Valentine's contest was held with Mrs. Hayes & Mrs. Davi- son winners.
