The Elgin U.C.W. met on Tuesday, Oct. 7th in Congregational Hall at the Elgin United Church for their Thanksgiving meeting with 21 members present. The president Nina Churchill opened the meeting welcoming the members and expressed gladness to return home from her travels. Mrs. Churchill started the meeting with a Thanksgiving poem and expressed wishes for each one to take time for a few minutes and list all the things to be thankful for and give 'Thanks to GOd'o EVeryone participated in the Thanksgiving worship accompanied with a colorful fall worship centre. Following the worship service, a film "Children in the Congregation" was showne In preparation for the film there were scripture readings from various parts of the Bible with "Jesus and the Children" together. A discussion followed the film on "How are the children of the church involved with church serVices?" Business was started with the minutes and roll call. The treasurer's report followed. Money was sent to Camp Quin-Mo-Lac and a ~ donation was to be giVen to Sister Julia Hamilton, home from Guatemala. The strife of that country was pointed out by an article in the last Observer. The planning meeting for the annual bazaar will be held on Oct. 15. The literature secretary pointed out the study packet kit and handed out the Mandates. Everyone enjoyed the fellOWShip and lunch following the meeting. *************** Honoured At a recent dinner held at the Brockville Country Club to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ontario Medical Association, Dr. N.W. Kerr of Elgin was presented with the Glen Sawyer Service Award. "Doc" Kerr has served the Elgin area residents for over 40 years and was recognized by his peers "for bringing honour to the medical profession by his service to his community." The Lantern staff, and we are sure his many friends and patients congra- tulate him on this occasion and thank him for his on-going dedication to the needs of his community.
