SOCCER NEWS Greetings Soccer Fans, Here's a Soccer Quiz. What is the NASL? Most of us know by now that the NASL stands for the North American Soccer League; however many don't, due to the very recent "phenomenon" of Soccer on this continent at the professional level. I realized the other day that I too had alot to learn about the NASL when someâ€" one asked me how many teams were in the entire league. It took a check of the NASL standings in the newspaper that evening to reveal the surprising fact (I thought there might be a dozen or so) that there are 24 teams in the League; the Canadian teams being Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver. They're playâ€" ing in front of crowds of 15,000 in places like Memphis, Tennessee and up- wards of 60,000 in New York City for the Cosmos home games. ,I suppose this shouldn't surprise anyone of British, European or South American ancestry where Soccer is, and has been a way of life for a long, long time. Why , you may ask, does all this have to do with Soccer here in North Leeds? Simple. If you reâ€"order the NASL letters you come up with NLSA, the North Leeds Soccer Association. We are pleased to announce that starting this Sept. 13, this brand new Soccer Association will swing into action with teams from Seeley's Bay, South Crosby, Delta and Portland at four different levels. Registration will take place thru the respective schools with the exceptâ€" ion of Sweet's Corners, which will be represented by the Seeley‘s Bay Soccer Club. Mr. Jim Cairns will conduct a Coaching Clinic on Thurs. Sept 4, at South Crosby Public School. In last month's Soccer action the Seeley's Bay teams participating in the Kingston Soccer Association had some very encouraging results. Both the Atoms and Novices had played the only team to have beaten them (each of which was undefeated) during this same week. Each Seeley's Bay team emerged vicâ€" mmediate Delivery Crushed Gravel - Topsoil Sandy Fill - Bank Gravel Concrete Gravel - Mortar Sand Washed Tile Bed Stone Open Mon.-Fri. 7-5 Saturday Until NOON SWEET’S Sand & Stone Ltd.
