Ron Britton addressed the meeting with a description of the Gananoque River Management Study now being under- taken in the three townships of Kitley, Bastard and Rear of Leeds and Lans- downe, comprising 950 sq. miles with four sub-basins. The consultant firm of Crysler and Lathem, Ltd., Willowdale is under- taking the study with funding provided by Federal, Provincial and the Muniâ€" cipal Governments through the Flood Damage Reduction Program. Flood- plain mapping is in process to indicate which lands can safely be developed. Costs are $166,000 for mapping and $40,000 for collecting data. This and other Engineering studies, such as requirements of hydroâ€"electric power, interrelate with ongoing environmental studies to give an overview of water quality, fish and wildlife resources, aquatic vegetation, as well as recreâ€" ational interests. In the final stages the Study will form water management strategies which will tie together all those varied interests. Two openâ€"house public meetings have been planned to form in-put for the Study, one in its initial stage which was held June let at the Sweets Corner School and a second at the conclusion in 1981 or 1982, to present the strateâ€" gies which have been developed. Mr. Britton made a request for in- formation from experienced, concerned people who know the river system, and especially from the farming resource people. A question period followed and Mr. Britton furthur discussed the implicaâ€" tions of the Study as it is related to the goals of the G.R.W.A. and con- cluded that he has high hopes for the study if co-operation exists. HwS LYNDHURST Bun Sheffield expressed to Ron Britton the appreciation of all pre- sent and thanked him for addressing the meeting. Newly elected President, Richard Fox, assumed the chair and made a motion for a show of appreciation to the retiring executive members for their services to the ASSOCiation. This was seconded and unanimous by vote. The treasurer's report was given by Bun Sheffield showing bank balance of $119.06 and cash on hand of $16.01 for a total of $135.13. There were 38 paid up memberships for 1980 to this date. Dick Fox suggested that the Association problems be attacked through small committees who would meet together and bring their resolutions annually to the General Meeting. F.J. O'Connor recommended that the next meeting date be decided now and the date selected was Sept. 26th, 1980. Appreciation was expressed for use of the Council Chamber and facilities.
