Hurt of Maryland, U.S.A. The books have been donated to the Library in memory of Mrs. Hurt's father, John S. Lennox who was bron in Elgin in 1887. Mr. Lennox' grandfather was the Rev. Nathan Howard, a minister at Elgin United Church around the 1850's. The Library Board was most pleased to accept this gift and are sure their many patrons will enjoy the excellent selection of books. ROBSON EXHIBIT Down through the ages many skilled crafts people have worked long hours at the potter's wheel to produce useful objects necâ€" essary for everyday living as well as refined pieces of beautiâ€" ful artistry. Now at the Elgin Branch of the Rideau Lakes Union Public Library is an exhibit of pottery by Jan Robson which combines both these goals. Jan Robson began her work in clay in 1974 following study at the Banff School of Fine Arts. Initially working in stoneware, she has made the transition to porcelain as part of the continâ€" uing refinement of her work. As a pottery instructor for St. Lawrence College, the Gananoque Arts and Crafts Guild and the Kingston Potter's Guild as well as a participant in num- erous Southern Ontario art shows, Ms. Robson is receiving increasâ€" ing recognition for her work. She currently works in her studio at her home near Elgin, Ontario. Two special decorative techâ€" niques should be noted when viewing her exhibit at the Elgin Library. In the marbled pieces, colouring metal oxides, such as cobalt or copper have been added to a portion of the clay, while underglaze pencil designs are drawn on the surface of the bisque pot. These pencils conâ€" tain colouring oxides and allow the potter fine control of their application on the smooth surâ€" face. Jan Robson's pottery dis- play is currently on loan to the Eastern Ontario Library System for a 1980-81 tour of member public libraries. page 9 Rideau Medical Centre 5.: . 5 Village of Newboro Fred Warriner (Chairman) Elswood Pritchard Village of Westport Archie Rice Christopher Trowbridge Township of N.Crosby Frank Pollard Dorothy Baldwin Bastard & Burgess Frank Perrin Fred Lake Township of S,Crosby William J.barker Arthur Keates 1980 Newboro, KOG lPO 272-2228 " " 222-2844 Westport KOG 1X0 273- 2833 " " 273-2980 RR#1 Westport KOG 1x0 273-5622 RR#2 Westport KOG 1x0 273-2090 Portland 272-2291 RR#2 Elgin 359-5733 RR#1 Portland KOG 1V0 272-2550 RRI Elgin KOG 1E0 272-2558 --~--m‘~H-w- - p â€" u â€" - . - â€" m-..
