SOUTH‘CROSBY SENIOR CITIZENS The South Crosby Senior Citizens of Elgin meeting was held on July 9th, in our room. A report was given by Daisy Coon regarding the time we had with other senior citizens at Kendrick Park. Four of our group were able to attend the Rally of Zone 20 South at Cardinal on June let. At this time they were celebrating their Centennial and needless to say there was a great deal of entertainment going on. Daisy Coon gave a complete and very good account of our day there. Eliza Gray reported our bank balâ€" ance. Mr. Gifford, our Executive member was present and gave us an informative talk regarding the problems and needs of older people and the procedure and operation of senior citizens groups. The question was raised about the 22nd annual convention of the United Senior Citizens of Ontario Inc. which will be held at Queen's University, Kingston on August 12th and 13th. I have sent for registration for two delegates and hope we will be able to attend. A discussion was carried on about the Star members. It was moved by John Hughson and seconded by Mrs. Burt that $1.00 per member be sent immediately in order that all members would be Star Members. Arrangements were made for the Thousand Island trip on August 6th. and those interested agreed to meet at the Senior Citizens room at 1:00 and we hope to have enough cars to go to Gananoque. The people to bring lunch to the next meeting, which will be September, were selected. Adjournment of the meeting was called by Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Roberts. Book Sale Report Our fourth used book sale was again a great success. Our offerings this year were heavily weighted towards paâ€" perbacks. These were quickly purchased by many of our summer residents to stock up their cottages for leiSure reading. Many of our customers were returning for the third year and we all enjoyed a friendly visit while we sold our wares at next to giveâ€"away prices. Our main objective, which was to sell all our donated, rejected, and second- copies of books, was reached and we also managed to make $130. We would like to thank the Bank of Montreal for the use of their parking lot, Halladay's Grocery for the most welcome cool refreshments and the South Crosby Fire Department for the use of their tables(delivered and picked up by John Duncan.) A special thank you to all of our doners and purchasers for making our sale a fun event. We hope to see you all again next year. i - . s - - r , . , . . . . .
