DELTA DATA BEVERLEY SENIOR CITIZENS The Beverley Senior Citizens' Club met in the Legion Hall at the noon hou r on May 16th for a delicious potâ€"luck luncheon. There was a splendid attendance and following the meal a business meeting was held with Audrey Talbot presiding assisted by Dione Kirby, Secretary. Happy Birthday was sung especially for Charles Chant, who has just reached his 90th birthday. Correspondence dealt with included the Kingston Convention, August 12th and 13th and Mr. and Mrs. Kirby were appointed as delegates to attend. The Zone Rally is being held in Cardinal on June let and thirteen members sigâ€" nified their intention of attending. Special mention was made of the delightful day spent recently with the Lansdowne Senior Citizens' Club. Convener of the trip committee, Percy Kirby reported on the Peter- borough trip on June 16th and Leora Raison reported on bowling activities. A picnic at Delta Municipal Park was discussed for the June meeting and all agreed on Friday, June 27th for that event. At that meeting election of officers will take place and a nominating committee was named by the president. Miriam Bryan reported sending baskets of fruit and cards to sick members. A get well card was signed by all for Reta Latimer, recently returned from hospital. Several new members were added to the list and made welcome by the President. Rod Sheridan, of Ottawa, a summer resident replied in a very suitable manner and expressed his appreciation of joining with the Club in its activities. The remainder o f the afternoon was spent playing bingo and other games for friendly fellowship. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Because of poor weather conditions, the Beverley Senior Citizens' picnic was held in the fireball, when a noon hour meal was enjoyed by twenty five members on June 27. The regular business meeting was held in the afternoon, with Audrey Talbot presiding. The singing of the National Anthem opened the meet- ing and Happy Birthday was sung for several members. As this was the annual meeting, dues were paid and financial report given by the secretary-treasurer, Dione Kirby. The auditor's report was read and the nomination committee presented their report. Miriam Bryan gave a splendid report of the recent trip to Car- dinal to attend the "rally". Eleven members also attended and it was noted that next year's rally will be held at Landsdowne. Convener of the trip committee, Percy Kirby, reported all members were very pleased with the recent bus trip to Peterborough and plans are now under way for the trip September 18, 19 and 20 to the "Pow-Wow Lodge” at Huntsville. Brochures for this trip were given out. ‘It was decided to again procure a booth for Delta Fair and sell home baking and crafts, as they did last year. The fair board is again ofâ€" fering a special prize for senior citizens in a handâ€"writing contest. A vote of thanks was to be ex- tended to Ronald Morris for the Senior Citizen Window display of crafts in his store window during Senior Cit- izen Week. The report of the nominating com- mittee was accepted and the following officers elected to office: Past President, Helen Gifford; president, Audrey Talbot; first viceâ€"president, Vera Sheridan, second vice-president, Leita Burt; secretary-treasurer, Dione Kirby; press reporter, Miriam Bryan; auditors Glen Sweet and Edgar Woods; special committee for execâ€" utive, George Harrington and Leora Bryan; auditors Glen Sweet and Edgar Woods; special committee for executive, George Harrington and Leora Raison; sick committee, Miriam Bryan; social committee, Leora Raison, Eva Dougal, Murial Girden and Jane Sawyer; trip committee, Percy Kirby, Helen Gifford, Vera Sheridan and Mildred Sweet; crafts, Eva Dougal. Meetings will not be held in July or August and the September meeting will be on Friday, September 12 at 2 p.m. in the Legion hall. "The Queen" was sung and several games of bingo played during the social time, when a coffee hour was enjoyed. The Beverley Senior Citizens' Club sponsored a day trip to Peterborough on Monday the 16th, which proved to be a very enjoyable affair. Following the lunch hour at noon a delightful cruise on the Trent Canal and the lift Lock experience was a thrill for all forty four persons aboard. 0n the return to the city, a short stop at a shopping centre and then the delicious dinner at "Rock Haven" was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The annual picnic is being held at Beverley Lake Park at the noon hour on Friday the 27th. In case of rain-I in the Legion Hall. Several members of the Beverley Senior Citizens' Club attended the District Rally held at Cardinal on Saturday. DELTA UNITED CHURCH The Delta United Church was filled to capacity June 8th, on the occasion of the 40th Annual Divine Church Service of the St. Law- rence District No. 50 Independent Order of Oddfellows and Rebekah District No. 2. The Inaugural District Church Service of the order was held in this Church forty years ago. The 120 members paraded from the Lodge Rooms led by the Pipers and Drummers of the Brockville Highland Pipe Band and a Colour Party. The topic of Rev. Grant Richard- son's sermon was "Under Orders." The scripture Luke 7:1â€"10 was read by the District Deputy Grand Master, Ron Morris. Selections sung by the Choir included Amazing Grace.
