It was moved and seconded that Council pay General Voucher No. 11 in the amount of $6.902.bl. and Road Voucher No. 5 -$24.806.33 (Carried) - Council are requesting the Ministry of Environment under the "Private Service Funding Program" to do a study in the Villages of Delta & Portland. - Council acknowledged a letter from Harmony Lodge stating that as of May 31, 1980, the Lodge relinquishes any claim on the Town Hall owned by the Corporation. - Council adjourned to meet again June 16. 1980, at leO P.M. or at the call of the Peeve. Council met on Monday. June 16. 1980, in the Council Chambers. Chantry, at 1:00 P.H. - moved and seconded that Council pay General Voucher No. 12 in the amount of $302.89Q.67. (Carried) â€" moved and seconded that Council accept the tender of Haskins Motors Ltd. for a new Pick-up Truck for the Road Dept.. subject to the approval of the Ministry of Transportation and communications. (Carried) - moved and seconded that Council approve the basic park rate of $6.00 per day. an increase of 50 cents. as of June 16. 1980. (Carried) - moved and seconded that the Council of the Township of Bastard & South Burgess give a donation of $100.00 to the south Crosby Volunteer Fire Dept. towards the purchase of the "Marshall Rescue Tool".(Carried) - Council adjourned to meet agaln July 7, 1980. at 1100 POM. or at the call of the Reeve. §***#**§*****§********* BETA SIGMA PHI The 1980 Beta Sigma Phi theme, "Around the World". was celebrated by more than 600 girls as members from Canadian and American Chapters and from far off Australia attended a Convention June 6,7 and 8 in Hamil- ton, Ontario. Judy Pattinson, Barb Bakker, Sharon Horsefield and Marie Sharp from Portland along with Barb Purdy, El- gin and former Westport resident Mary Lou Smitheram were among the Convention delegates. Hospitality abounded with a differâ€" ent theme for each mea1,co-ordinating decorations, food and costumes to effect a tour of Italy, Greece, Scot- land and Hawaii. Saturday morning forums featured two excellent speak- ers with a question period following, and tours were arranged for the afterâ€" noon. Excellent live musical enter- tainment followed the evening meal. Many new friendships were formed and old ones renewed during the week- end which ended with a Hawaiian Fareâ€" well, a perfect closing to the con- vention. PORTLAND COMMUNITY HALL The Ministry of culture and Rec- reation has recently approved the board's grant application for $22,000 to assist with renovations to the Hall and Library. Work will commence immediatley and should be completed by November of this year. Almost all the board's portion of monies to be spent has been raised, but we require the proceeds of a successful CHICKEN BARBEQUE, AUGUST 2ND to bring us over the top. Plans were organized at this meeting and requests are being sent forth for another day of fine weather for the barbeque. The Board has requested a quotation from Bell Canada for the instalation of a payphone at the Hall.
