r F V Newboro News ' .. -C'HAFFEY’S-jLOCK. till-WENS INSTITUTE .Our "Friendship Night" November 13 was held in the charming Opinicon lounge. Our president called us to order with all repeating our Institute Ode and Creed. Our motto for the evening was "You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it." Then the individual members introduced their guests. Our minutes were read and approved. Ellen Bonwill was our acting secretary in the absence of Kathryn Scott, who we are sorry to report,was sick. We accepted with thanks a cheque from the Lions' Club to be put towards the printing of the village book. Laurel Fleming reported that the funds for the book are gradually coming in. we are very happy to have found a 4H Club in Elgin which we can assist. The Christmas Pot-Luck supper is to be held December 7th in the Hall at 6:30 for the Chaffey's Lock community. Cathy Vietch reported on our plans for the "Specialty Food Table" for the Rideau Crafts Christmas market, which we are all looking forward to. We were happy to have our District President with us, who reminded us of the joint meeting in Philipsville for Delta, Chaffey's Lock and Philips- ville branches. She presented several of our women with a gift in token of their years of service and longhstanding membership. Our guest speaker was the V.0.N., Nurse Shirley Green, who gave us a very interesting account of their work and service to the area. One 3 f immicultu-ral Sristy - A meeting was held on November hth in Newboro Municipal Hall. The second vice-president, Mrs. Bonwill, presided. The plans made for our Christmas meeting were: 1. A work shop on wreath making for those interested,led by Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Miller. Bring frames and coloured trinkets and blue plastic. 2. Display of Christmas articles - some prizes. These are made at home. 3. Talk about Christmas plants ~ How to get the best and longest pleasure from them. 4. Carol singing. -¢b. Exchange of gifts“by drawn numbers. No gift should cost more than $2. Good- ies â€" pot luck sandwiches and sweets brought in small amounts by all members. Members were asked to have reports of voluntary work ready to hand in at the December meeting. The slate of officers for 1981 are: President - Mrs. Don Williams lst Vice â€" Mr. D.M. Heywood Secretary - Mrs. Eleanor Green Two Year Directors: Mrs. Sharen Jenkins, Mrs. Elsie Goodman, Mr. and Mrs. Kim- merly, Mrs. Winona Barker, Mrs. Fern Donnelly. One Year Directors: Mr. Leonard Prit- chard, Mrs. Donald Henry, Mrs. Ileana Blair, Mrs. Irene Arnould, Mrs. Evelyn Bell. Mrs. Bell introduced Susan and Carolyn Hutchings. These two young ladies show- ed our group a beautiful program of slides taken during our bus trip to the indoor Floralie show. _ Mrs. Arnould showed a second program of slides. These were taken by her son at the Floralie show in Belgium. The two programs were very different and gave a very interesting contrast as to how these shows are displayed. Door prizes were drawn which were donated by the Kimmerlys. Lunch was provided by the Salem ladies. page 19 Ridoau Crafts- The November 10th workshop meeting of Rideau Crafts proved to be successful and well-attended. The Rideau Crafts Workshop Group was responsible for an imaginative dem- onstration making Christ- mas decorations. The demonstration included the use of many different materials from milkweed pods and bittersweet for corsages to wallpaper and Christmas paper and wall- paper as Christmas wrap. All enjoyed themselves ‘while producing their own demonstrations from Various dried examples generously supplied. Following the work- shop a brief business meeting was held. Those in attendance voted on recommendations resulting from Planning and Object- ives Day, October 6. Most recommendations were accepted with little alteration. The executive will be meeting this month, despite the decision not to have a December general meeting. The next general meeting will be announced in future columns. Plan to attend the Rideau Crafts Thristmis Market this Saturday, November 29 at Riieau District High School starting 10 a.m. to # p.m. -- for the best local crafts available. Glenna Langlois extended a vote of appreciation to our guest and presented her with a cheque for her work. A happy time of fellowship and refreshments brought a splendid meeting to a close.
