STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS The first dance of the year was held January 28, and it was our first attempt at a record hop. News of this dance will be available in the second issue of this paper. Louise Sweet is organizing a blood donor clinic for the students and the general public. We need your support if this is to be a worthwhile project. Probable time for this project is the middle of March. Winter Carnival will be held the week of February 7 to 12. Several of the events are for the general public, and we encourage you to attend as many events as possible. On PJS is a pro- posed schedule of events. GEORGE GRATTON: PRINCIPAL, RIDEAU DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL George was born in Ste. Anne Beaupre, Quebec, 21 miles west of Quebec City. At an early age, he moved to Northern Ontario and attended Schumacher High School. He was an outstanding juvenile hockey player and was awarded a hockey scholar- ship at the University of North Dakota. In his Sophomore year, he was a member of the NCAA college hockey champions. George graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1961, married Marlene, a North Dakota girl, and returned to Canada. They moved to Port Hope where George began a teaching Career in languages. During his 10 years there, George became head of the modern languages department. In 1971, George, Marlene, and family moved to Brockville, where George was vice-principal of Thousund Islands Secondary School, and in the fall of this year, George joined the Rideau family as Principal of Rideau District High School. George, Marlene, and their three children have moved to Portland, and they are becoming involved in the community. Dana, the oldest daughter, is a member of the girls gymnastic team, and George is coaching the school badminton team. RIDEAU DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL SHORTS «We have a student teacher from the University of Waterloo here for the second semester. Annette Legendre is teaching in the math department. â€"Peter Hutchison, a music teacher at Rideau is now teaching music in Athens and Paul Harding will be a part-time teacher in our music department. â€"Men's basketball is on Sunday night, 8pm at Rideau. If you are interested, contact Bruce Haskin or Myron Porter at 359~5540- -Night school continues on Monday and Thursday evenings. "The Hollywood Rejects, a travelling basketball team, will play the Rideau Senior Knights, Feb. 24 at 8pm. Look for advertisements around the community. ~Teachers and Counsellors from Ridcau will be visiting the Elementary feeder schools in the month of February to discuss Course selections of the grade cights for next year's programme. i__.-=
