Why Form a Recreation Committee? ‘5 There is a continuing e a e in the townships of North Leeds as to whether it is really worthwile to form a township recreation committee. Part of the reason for this is that under the regulations of the Act, only one recognized township Commi- ttee can be formed per township where as there may be three or four different Villages within a township, each wanting to have their own committee. Townships or villages can set up basically three types of committees: .w1) A Recreation Committee-whose purpose lfiis to administer and implement recreâ€" ,§ation programs and services. f2) A Community Centre Committee - . . .. . .; .;-»: w- - K 0...? The Senior programme operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mor~ nings from 9 to 11:30 and costs $25 per month. For example, a Recreationâ€"Community Centre Committee could be organized. All of the above operate as subcommittees of council and are res- ponsible to them. In the northern half of Leeds there are still many townships who have no official recreation committee. In some of these townships, volun- tary committees exist, which may per- form the same functions as a recrea- tion committee. As of January 1977, the following recognized committees existed. Village of Westport â€" Community Centre Board 7 Village of Newboro - Recreation- Commu- nity Centre Committee North Crosby - no official committee Bastard & S.
