E1! in Events . Elgin and District Co-operative Nursery School to Open Soon The Elgin and District Co-operative Nursery School will open October 3, 1977 for up to thirty preschool children, from 3 to 5 years of age. The Nursery School will be located at the United Church in Elgin; and is open to all preschool children in the area. Registration will be held on Monday September 12, 1977 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A registration fee of $5.00 per family plus the first month's tuition fee will be required at this time. If you are unable to attend please contact one of the executive members for registration forms as soon as possible. A junior program (3 to 4 years) will be held on Tuesday and Thursâ€" day afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at a cost of $18.00 per month; and a Senior program (4 to 5 years) on Monday and Wednesday, and Friday at the same time, at a cost of $25. per month. Special fees are availâ€" able if there is more than one child in the family. The Nursery School concept is not new to this province and has benef- ited many children in our neighbour- ing cities. It is an nonâ€"profit organization set up and maintained by the parents who enrol their childâ€" ren. It is a family project with mother, father and child all inter- ested in the same venture. It can be a valuable community project with each family making its own contribuâ€" tion for the good of all. The essential purpose of the Nursery School is to provide the preschool child with the opportunity to play regularly with other children of the same age. To allow them the opportu- nity to learn to share friends and toys. Each child is encouraged to develop his individual personality and is taught to consider the rights and feelings of others. The program is designed to develop the whole child - physically, socially, emotâ€" ionally and cognitively. As a co-operative Nursery School the parents have the opportunity to be actively involved in their child's development as teacher assistants on a rotating basis; or by providing assistance that can be completed in the home. Ibcause the Nursery School is a nonâ€" profit organization and is not elig- ible for a government grant at this time the initial operating budget will be very tight. Many supplies are required and methods are being sought to obtain the necessary e- quipment. Donations of money, sturâ€" dy preschool toys, child size kitâ€" chen appliances etc. would be grateâ€" fully accepted. For donations and further information feel free to contact any of the folâ€" lowing executive.
