8‘ RIDEAU LAKES LOG Statistics show that this summer was an excellent one for reading. Over 3,200 volumes were borrowed in the month of July. Many of our summer visitors found our ï¬b- raries for the first time and their comm- ents indicated that they were impressed with our collections and service. Our Young Canada Works project hasleen very worthwhile. Our young workers have accomplished much in their 10 weeks of work. Excellent attendance in most areas at the story hour, crafts programmes and film shows and a good turn-out to hear our special guests' music programmes. Several of our senior residents were introduced to Talking Books and are usâ€" ing them on a regular basis. The Histor- ical Research project has gathered a lot of interesting material and we have some excellent taped interviews with many of our most senior citizens (and a few with the "young 'uns"). Hopefully this mater- ial will be put into booklet form and be available through the libraries for those interested in the history of life in our area. Our Building Fund Drive is doing well although we would like to have the total sum raised before the end of September. If you would like to donate to this pro- ject which will enable us to continue and expand our services, please contact your local bank or your branch library. A receipt for income tax purposes is avail- able on request. We are buay booking special programmes for the fall and hope to include something of interest for every age group. of spec- ial interest will be 8 Gilbert and Sullivan Trogramme by a professional group from Vancouver featuring Canadian baritone Harry Mossfield. Watch the North Leeds lantern for more details on this and other shows. The Elgin branch will revert back to its usual hours as of September 1, 1977. EIGIN U.C.W. Elgin U.C.W. will convene again on the evening of Tuesday, September 13, with a pot luck supper at 6:30.
