Elg’ in, Eve nts SOUTH CROSBY SUMMER PLAYGROUND The South Crosby Council and the Leeds-Grenville County Board of Education are funding a playground program and swim- ming lessons, to be held at the South Crosby Township Beach at Sand Lake. All resident children and visitors to the area are invited to take advan- tage of the program to be offered, which will run 5 days a week from July 4 to 29, and August 9 to 26. Program director is MARIE EARL, with assistants JULIA SHEFFIELD and KAREN HUBEL. BRENDA TETLEY will run the Red Cross Swimming program. Transportation will be provided daily, from the Public School in Elgin to the Beach. The bus will leave the village at 9:45 and return at 4:15. Registration forms must be filed and are available at the beach on the first day of the program. Registration fees are 35.00 per child or $10.00 for a family. Brenda is qual- ified to teach up to and includ- ing Bronze Medallion, and would be interested in an evening class in lifeâ€"saving if this is more convenient for wouldâ€" be candidates. The ‘Mom and Me' class of swimmers, which will be offered at 12:50, is designed for mothers and their 'â€" babiesl tots. Also, if there are any adult nonâ€"swimmers who would like some afterâ€"hours help, please let us know° The playground program will feature instructional arts and crafts, organized games, and supervised play. On June 8th., 59 persons left for a two-day trip to Niaâ€" gara Falls. After a pleasant bus trip and a good lunch at their motel, they embarked on a tour which included the Falls, Marineland and a tour around the cityo In the evening they returned to see the Falls by coloured lights. The second day they took in the Botanical Gardens, the Parkland and then headed to Toronto to see the C, N. Tower, Ontario Place and ' r other places of interest. Lunch was enjoyed at the Flying Dutch- man and the happy travellers arrived back in Elgin by 6 p.m. Everyone voted it a pleasant and worthwhile trip. The courâ€" teous and genial driver added much to the enjoyment of the trip a In celebration of Senior Citizen's Week, the South Crosby Township Council sponsored a dinner for all Senior Citizens on June 2lst. A large number of Seniors attended and enjoyed the delicious meal catered to by the Ladies Auxilliary. Rev. Harry Seeley acted as Master of Ceremonies, and Rev. Allen Brandon said Grace. Following the meal, Mrs. Katherine Scott lead in a singâ€" song. Mr. Earl McFadden brought greetings from the Council and an explanation of the plans to build a Senior Citizens' Home where the old Continuation School now stands. Mr. Greg Courneya, another Council member thanked the Auxilliary Ladies for the delâ€" icious dinner, and urged each Senior Citizen to do something on Canada Day to show their pride and interest in our ocuntry. It was regretted that Mr. Donovan and his wife, Pat, could not attend the dinner because of the death of her father. pace 7 Mr. Seeley read a letter from the New Horizons stating that the Friendship Club would receive the grant for which they had applied. The next meeting of the Friendship Club will be held the third Tuesday in July. The conveners are Mrs. Rose Ellen Biggs, Mrs. Mary Fraser and Mrs. Olive Shire. Mr. Seeley asked the Counâ€" cillors present to convey to the Reeve, Everton Strong and the other Councillors thanks and appreciation from the Senior Citizens of South Crosby.
