PAGE FOUR ELGIN FRIENDSHIP CLUB The Friendship Club held their Oct. meeting in their room in the afternoon of the third Tuesday. Mr. Phonse Donovan presided. Regular business was discussed.Mrs. Mary Fraser gave a report on the bus trip to Peter- borough the last of September. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed. They left Elgin at 9 a.m., visited the site of the plo- wing match then on by 401 to Belleville on No. 14 to No. 7 to Peterborough. A delicious Smorgasbord dinner with excel- lent service was enjoyed at the Rock Haven Motel. After dinner a lady guide came on the bus to show and desbribe inâ€" teresting parts of the city. After an hour and a half of sight seeing the bus returned by No. 7 where the foliage was gorgeous and at its best. Mr. Donovan gave a clear and interes~ ting report on a Senior Citizen meeting which he and his wife attended at Toledo. Anna Charland introduced Ken Dewar of who gave a brief history of the Rideau Canal befoâ€" re showing the film "Col. By's Peaceful Waterways". A question and answer pe- riod followed which was most interesâ€" ting. Mr. Dewar mentioned that he would like to contact history teachers in the area who could have some stu- dents interview residents who might have additional information on this particular part of the Rideau. Seventeen members answered the roll call. The date for our Fall Bazaar was set for Nov. 23. A planning meeting for this will be held Nov. 2 at 1:30. The meeting closed with the hymn "Thank You". ELGIN MINOR HOCKEY _ The Short Stop Variety and Gas Bar Minor hockey will begin on Saturday, November 5th, with registration at South Crosby Public School from 10 A.M. until 12 noon. There will be a registration fee of $2.00 per player with a maximum charge of $5.00 per family to help pay for new sweaters. Registration is open to anyone in South Crosby Township or any of the surrounding townships. Registration is for all boys or girls from age six to sixteen who want to play hockey this winter. We hope to have enough girls register to have a complete girls' league this year. As well as games in Elgin, we hope to schedule some games in Morton and I Crosby when they have ice.
