Winner of the light horse draw: Gerald Morrowâ€" Heavy: Clifford Manin. Tuesday: The fair began with a unique parade which attracted a variety of floats and exhibits from the surround- ing area. Mary Jane's ice cream shop was judged best float. It was composed of six people dressed as ice cream cones. Tom Cossitt, M.P. for Leeds presented the fair board with a Canadian flag. James Auld M.P.P. wished the 1978 fair success. Other dignitaries took the podium and congratulated the direct- ors of the fair board for the wonderful and historic Delta Fair, the second old- est in the province. Laurie McCullough president of the association of Agricultural Societies declared the fair officially open. Tuesday harness race winner Tara Sand owned by Bernard Corcoran of Kingston took home $87.50 in purse money. Leeds County Holstein Show was held Tuesday; a large ringside was on hand to see Judge Flett, Oshawa place 104 top quality head for 20 exhibitors. The recipient of both the premier exhibitor and premier breeder awards was Goldenâ€" dale Farm of Lansdowne. North Star Holsteins (Lyn) was runner-up for both. Maple Ain Holsteins (Smiths Falls) dis- played the grand champion milking cow. Swine competition was won by Hilton Livingston (Athens). Brent Niblock (Lyndhurst) was the dominant exhibitor in the poultry area which included 36 entries. Goats: 45 entries: Jim's Fred Marlow of Elginburg displayed the best goat in any class. NORTH LEEDS LANTERN â€" Local Government This is an election year for the municipalities. Nomination day is Monday, October 23rd. Election day is Monday, November 13th. To en- sure a strong effective system we must participate. Consider letting your name stand this year for office. This is all you have to do. To Qualify You can be nominated if you are not disqualified under this or any other act and if at any time during September 5 and October 27 you are a resident, if you are a Canadian citizen or British Subject and if you have attained the age of Maple syrup competition was won by Alma White. The exhibit hall was full with the ladies work of sewing and crafts, painting, vegetables, baking and school exhibits. Canada Packers Quilt Collect- ion was on display Tuesday and Wednesâ€" day. The Amateur Show had eight en- tries. Wednesday featured the Jersey Parish Show, horse show, harness racing and the Hell on Hoof chariot races. The baby show had 46 entries. Conklin Shows of Canada added much to the fair. Farm machinery, Canadian crafts, Parks Canada and many more filled the concession both inside and out. Attendance was up from last year and the Board is happy to state another successful year. The fair concluded with a grandstand show featuring Dick Damron, Ralph Carlson and the County Mile and Ted Daigle; following the show this group played for the dance held in our main hall. The name and address of you, the nominee, in such a manner as to clearly identify you. 2. Must state the office nominated for. 3. Must be signed by at least ten (10) qualified electors with full addresses. Also you must present a signed consent to the nomination and a declaration of qualification. Once you have these papers you are ready to go to the Township Clerk. Nomination day is October 23rd. On that day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. you may file your papers. However, if you are unsure of your papers you are entitled to file during the regular hours of the township clerk in the week immediately preceding nomination day. This can be important. When you file before nomination day, the clerk will check your papers and if they are correct in form he/she will issue you a written certi- fication. If you file on nomâ€" ination day he/she is allowed to check the papers the following day and if they are not correct you would be disqualified. That is it! After the clerk issues your certification he/she will post your name and you're off and running. Think it over! There is no higher calling than to serve your fellow man. Ix
