We would also like to express our gratitude to the members of Rideau Crafts for their generous support. letter: to Me Editor An open letter to the Chairman of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board OMMB A MACHINE Dear Sir: In September. 1977. a delegation from this area met with OMMB to present views on the banning of milk cans. We all know the outcome. dictatorship won out and thousands of dairy farmers were legislated out of existence. At that meeting. the chairman of OMMB. made this statement: "We have a machine rolling for us and we can't stop it". A machine so cold and impersonal; without feelings. honour or dignity; with no sense of values or economies; with no flexibility or compassion; an untouchable that doesn't have to account to anyone; capable of rolling over anything and anyone that gets in its way. A total dic- tatorship. This is what is running our dairy industry and why people are plain "fed up". We are not supposed to question. oppose or criticize. We are supposed to just lie down and be rolled over. I assure you. Mr° Chairman of OMMB. that we are not going to lie down any longer. We are coming out fighting. We believe that all citizens should. and are entitled. to know what is going on. We seem to have too soon forgotten that Hitler had a machine rolling for him that destroyed everything in its wake. After untold death and destruction it was stopped. This OMMB machine has hurt thousands of farmers financially and must be stopped. I am told. by good authority. that our Minister of Agriculture. Mr. Newman, was prepared to make exceptions on the milk can hang to accommodate the Amish people and farmers who could deliver their milk to a factory. But. OMMB said: "NO EXCEPTIONS". Here we have the OMMB bigger than the government and the chairman with more powâ€" er and authority than our minister. I have newspaper reports stating that the chairman of OMMB crit- icized the minister of agriculture for requesting more quota for Ont. And.Graham Malcolm. president of the Ont. Dairy Council. crit- icized the chairman of OMMB for failing to support Mr.Newman in his plea for more quota. And while the Minister of Agriculture has a committee studying the advisability of remaining in the national milk plan. the chairman of OMMB is preaching to remain in it. We know what happened to the Army Commander who criticized the ministâ€" er of National Defence. Why shouldn't this be treated the same way? with so much confusion it is no wonder that we think the Chief Engineer of the OMMB machine should resign or be replaced. All concerned citizens are urged to let their views be heard loud and clear. Seriously concerned. Joe K. Raison. RRZ. Portland. Ont.
