Rideau Centennial School HAP PE N I N G 5 On Thursday evening, October 5th, we held our first Ski and Skate Sale. This sale was sponsored by the School Committee Executive as a service to the community. The Committee will be reviewing the situation to determine whether it should become an annual event. On Friday, October 6th, three teachers from Carleton Place visited the school to observe our programmes. They were very complimentary and took away several ideas which they hope will improve their own teaching. On Wednesday, October 18th, Roy Cote gavs a demonstration of Magic to the students. He was very well received and the students were both entertained and amazed by his presentation. On October 25th, all the teachers attended Professional Development activities in Brockville. The parents of the school were invited to attend. T'Rideau Centennial School Committee met Monday, September 25th, with all members present. Elections were held and the new executive is as follows: Chairman Jim Vanderschmit Vice Chairman Carolyn Visser Seey. Treasurer Sandy Purdy Liason with other committees Pat McManus Playground - Joan reported on the bank balance and progress so far. Letters of thanks will be sent to groups who donated and made offers of labour. Local companies donated various articles to aid in the construction of the equipment. Mr. Boyd will contact the Board Office to find out if there is land available between the school and Cedar Cove Road. The committee discussed the possib- ility of an ice rink behind the school. Student council will be approached re student participation. Volunteers are required to assist at the school. Please contact Mr. Boyd. The next school committee meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the school. A representative from the Board will speak on the use of calculators. u F C Meetings held first Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. at the Portland Community Ball.
