Page 12 RED CROSS MEETING Approximately sixty resiâ€" ‘dents of North Leeds met at Rideau District High School, November 22, with Red Cross representatives from Toronto and Brockville. The meeting was arranged by Shirley Green, V.O.N., who be- gan a homemaker service in North Leeds a year ago with the assis- tance of a Canada Works Grant. Having concluded that there is a need here for the service Mrs. Green and a committee sought administrative help from the Red Cross branch in Brockville. Heather Clark, V.O.N. supervisor in Brockville introâ€" duced the guests. A film provided information on the many services of the Red Cross. Betty Spry, Development Officer, Red Cross Ontario, informed the group that the only way the Red Cross could adminisâ€" ter the homemaker service would be through a sub-unit of the Brockville branch, manned by residents of North Leeds. The chairman of the sub-branch would act on the board of the Brockville branch. Kevin Roxby, Homemaker Coordinator, Toronto, outlined the various financial arrangeâ€" ments available for the service. It was suggested that the sub-branch have an executive of about 7 members. OOV1ously, the committee would reouire a great deal of support from the community. There followed nomination of a "steering committee“ whose function is to find a resident of each Council area plus a chairman willing to act on the submbranch executive committee. The "steering committee" headed by latricia Little includes Marie Sharp, Harold Derbyshire, nary Lowry, Shirley Bryden and Barbara Purdy. The six Council. areas include the t0vnships of North Crosby, South Crosby, bastard and Burgess, Rear of Leeds and Lansdowne, plus the villages of Newboro and zestport. Anyone interested in be; in; involved in setting up a subâ€"branch of the Red Cross is invited to call any member of the steering comiittee. _ VOTERS of south Crosby Township I WOULD LIKE To SINCERELY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AT THE POLLS on NOVEMBER 13th. Father McAvoy introduced Father McNally, a native of Westport. FatheriMcNally described the work of a pastoral team in general and that of Father Francis McNutt. The latter's pastoral team in a Toledo, Ohio hospital was the subject of the film. Near the end of the film a member of the hospital's medical team concluded that there is definitely a role for the pastoral team in a hospital. Father McNally stated that the same conclusion is being arrived at by many members of the medical profession. Following the viewing of the film Father McNally and Father McAvoy answered duestions on the healing ministry. The function of the pastoral team is to pray with a patient for relief , physical and emotional, and hOpefully, a cure. The initial goal is relief from anxiety over matters which, though out of his control, continue to worry him and to aggravate his physical condition. Once a patient is at peace with himself and those near him he is often relieved of symptons or is better able to accept his situation and even prepare for a peaceful death if a cure_is not possible. Several peOple present re- lated‘incidents of spiritual healing experienced themselves or by close relatives.
