Rideau lake: (Mien library turd flew: Our library Board had a busy meeting last month.To start out,Chairman Mrs. Haskins welcomed Rita Taylor and Ted Lan- don who were appointed by Newboro Council to join Mrs.June Boston as Trustees for the Village of Newboro. INTERIOR COMPLETED AT UNION HEADQUATERS: Greg Cournyea reported that carpeting has been installed in the new Union Libâ€" rary Headquarters.The new Children's Room,which is also housed in the addition to Elgin Branch,is now in use.A movable shelving unit serves as the dividing wall -giving added shelving without taking up additional space. To date,$9,332.68 has been spent on the addition,leaving $3,667.32 of the in- itial $13,000 funding.As soon as weather permits,the outside work,bricking,parking area and grounds will be done. THE OFFICIAL OPENING of the addition will be held Saturday,Apr,29.In conjunction with the opening,a workshop for Librarâ€" ians,Trustees and Councillors will be held.The workshop will introduce and pro- mote the Union Library concept to small libraries thrOughout Leedsâ€"Grenville. The following were appointed to organâ€" ize the Opening and Workshop program:Mrs. Anna Charland,Mrs. Rita Taylor and Ms. June Greenhorn.Mr. Cournyea will assist as soon as his personal schedule permits. The Board plans to print pamphlets in time for the Opening giving the past and present statistics of Union Library. Mrs.Warren and Ms.Greenhorn are preparing a history of Rideau Lakes Union Library, to include upâ€"to-date pictures of the six Branch Libraries. REQUEST EQUAL SUPPORT FROM BASLABQ AND SOUTH BURG Mrs. Haskins informed the Board that “sincevthe inception of Union Library, the Townships of South Crosby,Rear of Leeds and Lansdowne and the Village of Newboro have [based the mill rate for Libâ€" rary funding on Total Rateable Assessment but the Township of Bastard and South Bur- gess has based the rate on Residential Assessment.A motion was carried asking Bastard and Burgess Council for payment of the difference between these assess- ment rates,retroactive to January 1977. BOARD DEFENDS UNION LIBRARY SYSIEM The Board has decided to send a let- ter to Eastern Ontario Library System stating this Board's support of Union Library and Opposition to County Library APPLICATION TO YOUNG CANADA WORKS:Mrs. Pat Little,Coâ€"ordinator,reported that an application for students to be hired for summer employment under the Young Canada Works Program has been submitted to Ottawa for consideration. NEW BOOKS are being processed upon ar- rival at headquarters for distribution throughout the Union.However,movement of collections has been hampered by the move into the new Headquarters.Full serâ€" vice to Branch Libraries will resume soon. WA Canada Works program,has gathered 120 pages of inâ€" formation.This publication will go to print in May.Any person or organization who has not been contacted by the Can- ada Works staff and who would like to be included in the Directory,should contact Mrs.Dorothy Davies at Library Headquarters in Elgin. A GET WELL CARD has been sent on behalf of the Board to Mrs.Brys Scovil(Friends of Library,Portland Branch). AROUND THE UNION- Newboro~Several new members have joined and book circulation has greatly increas ed since January. Lyndhurstâ€"Book circulation and memberâ€" ship have remained constant. Seeleys Bayâ€"There's one new member here and book ciculation is steady.Mrs. Tina Angenent took over Library duties reâ€" cently for vacationing Librarian,Mrs. Freda Moulton. Portland-Ten new members joined last month and book circulation has increas- ed.The recent Heritage Display was most successful. DeltgeDelta Towu Fathers donated a copy of the History of Leeds and Grenville to this Branch,to be available soon. Elgin-Membership has increased,as has book circulation.The Children's Room is now open.Area schools and students are making good use of Union Library's Resource Centre and material. NORTH LEEDS LANTERN PAGE SEVEN NO-KNEAD WHOLE WHEAT BREAD M Some rainy afternoon you might want to try making your own bread. Don't get nervous'. This is a delicious no-iault, no-knead whole wheat bread anyone can make with little russ or bother. ln Fact, you could have a loot made. by dinnertime. 4 teaspoons dry yeast 2/? Cup lukewarm water 2 teaspoons honey 5 cups whole wheat flour 9 tablespoons molasses 2/? cup lukewarm water Ila teaspoons salt (optional) l/? cup wheat germ l l/3 cups lukewarm water l/2 tablespoon butter l tablespoon sesame seeds Sprinkle yeast over 2/3 cup lukewarm water. Add two teaspoons honey. Leave to "work" while preparing the dough. Warm whole wheat flour by placing it in a 250° over for about 20 minutes. Combine molasses with 2/3 cup lukewarm water. Combine yeast mixture with molasses mixture. Stir this into the warmed Flour, then add the salt, wheat germ and l l/? cups lukewarm water. Mix well , but don't knead. The dough will be sticky. Butter 9 V4" x 5 l/4ll loaf pan, taking care to grease the corners of the. pan well. Turn the dough into the pan. Smooth dough in pan with spatula which has been rinsed under cold water to prevent sticking. Sprinkle sesame seeds over top of loci. Leave to rise to top of pan in a warm, draft-tree place . Bake at 400° F . for 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is brown and sides of loaF are firm and crusty. Set pan on rack to cool For about lO minutes, then remove loaf From pan and (300' completely on rock before slicking. C.
