PAGE TEN NORTH LEEDS LANTERN (cl ELGIN HOCKEY AWARDS NIGHT On April lhth. the Elgin Minor Hockey League wrapped up its years activities with an awards night, arranged by the Hockey Mothers. All players and their fathers, coaches and referees were invited. Each player received a crest, designed by Daryl Roy. :The winning gs teams were presented with trophies donated by Bob Smith, Zeita Tate and Doug Summers. Each of the players was commended for his or her involvement in the league and the coaches and ref- erees were thanked for their commitment. Special thanks were afforded to Lila Welch for her role as President of the Hockey Mothers and she was pre- sented with a bouquet of flowers by Phyllis Connell on behalf of the group. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, a short film was enjoyed by all present. The evening ended with a light lunch served by the hockey mothers. ELGIN BOWLERAMA BIG SUCCESS Each year Elgin Bowling Lanes holds a Bowlerama with proceeds going to the Elgin Community Cen- tre for childrens' sports. All help is voluntary, and many of the citizens co-operate fully. Many thanks to the following who gave their time so willingly: Doris Summers, Lila Welch, Greg Carbine, Didk Raison, Rev. H. ANNUAL SPRING CONCERT R.D.H.S. Thursday evening, May 4th at 8:00 p.m. is the date and time for the 1978 Spring Concert at Rideau District High School. This_year three areas of the Arts program' _ will be represented: Drama, Music and Gymnastics. In the field of drama, Mr. Darrell Nunn will present a short but dramatic play called "Anastasia" The lead parts in this play are performed by Shelly Thompson and Karen Hogan. The gymnastics team, consis- ting of Kendra Gray, Tracey Mall- ette, Paula Nichols, Nancy Rhymer and coached by Mr. & Nrs. Kennedy will perform various routines on the floor, bars and beam. These young people should be congratu- lated on their fine performance this year. The musical portion of the program will include selections by the Rideau Band, Brian Pedâ€" herney, Julia Sheffield, Anne Glover and our special guests South Crosby Public School Ensem- The band is in the midst of a very active spring program including an exchange with Camp- bellford D.H.S. and a trip to Ottawa where we will play at Smith's Falls Collegiate, A.Y. Jackson 8.8. and Laurentian 8.8. We are also pleased to announce that the Band will be wearing their new uniforms, made possible through previous generosity of many people in the communities around Rideau. The league will run the months of May and June, two evenings a week from 7:00 to 8:30. The league is open to anyone in the North Leeds area from age 6-16, both boys and girls. Last year we had Senior and Junior Girls' teams, and Senior, Intermediate and Junior boys’ teams. There were approx~ imately 140 players and 10 coaches involved from Elgin, florton, Crosby, Portland, Delta and Phillipsville. We operated 5 diamonds at once on the play- ground at South Crosby School. The emphases in the pro- ,gram are on learning to play softball, improving skills, safety and simply enjoying the game. There is no entry fee as we are supported by the South Crosby Recreation Committee. Transportation uSually can be arranged in car pools from other areas to Elgin.
