The first meeting of 1981 was held at the home of Etheleen Tye. "New Beginnings" was the title for the opening. The Invocation was read by the presiding president, Etheleen Tye. The minutes for November and December were read. We have two new members, and our regular visitor, Mildred Hudson. The treasurer, June Goodwins, gave an account and will ask Mrs. Cowan to audit the books. Bills were paid and a card of thanks was received from Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Goodwins for the Christmas basket. Thanks were received from several shut- ins for their fruit baskets. Mary Dean thanked the A.C.W. and those who made up the S.S. candy bags. This is the "Year for the Disabled". Movies were collected for this and the birthday box. Dues for the year were increased. The Travelling Food Basket is being passed along. Etheleen gave an apron made by Jean Rogers for patches with money and name included. He have decided to buy "cross stitch" blocks for each one to work. It will be quilted and tickets sold on it through- out the summer. A toilet facility for our church baseâ€" ment will be purchased in the near future. Windows in the church are still not in good repair. Election of officers was presided over by June Goodwins. Our presidents, moving from hostess to hostess seems to be quite satisfactory. June Goodwins will continue as treasurer and Rita Jones will take the office of secretary. Sick and visiting Committee remains the same . The sheet for hostess, refreshments, church cleaning and altar will be re- vised. Evening meetings are held during ‘Daylight Saving Time‘ and afternoon meetings are held during the winter. The next meeting will be held at Elsie Hilloughby‘s on Wed.,Feb. ch. The church vestry meeting will be held after the 2 p.m. service on Jan. 18th. VSEELE_Y’S BAY U.C.W. Mrs. Joyce Simpson welcomed those who braved the storm to attend the January meeting in the C.E. room of the United Church. The devotional given by Mrs. Hil- da Simpson was an inspiring message for the New Year. The president, Hilda Simpson, presided. Annual reports were given by the treas- urer and by the card convenor, who re- ported that shut-ins had been remem- bered at Christmas and cards sent during the year. The thank offering was re- ceived and dedicated. Plans were finalized for catering to the ‘Holstein Club‘ on the 23rd. It was decided to purchase a vacuum cleaner for the church and Freda Davies volunteered to assist in this purchase. The date chosen for our ‘Spring Fair‘ is Saturday, May 2nd from lO a.m. to b p.m. The U.C.W. will have a bake table and miscellaneous items for sale. Booths will be available for anyone wishing to display or sell crafts or anything of interest. Anyone interested in having a booth, please get in touch with Mrs. Hilda Simpson. A delightful skit was presented with various members assisting, listing the needs and interests for fellowship, study and growth in Christian living. Lunch was served by Joyce Simpson as convenor and a social time enjoyed. The next meeting will be in the C.E. room on Tues. Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Joan Simpson of Arc Industries, Gananoque.
