Myrtle Simpson, as hostess, welcomed the ladies to the Feb. meeting. The devotional was given by Mariorie McIntyre and Mary Davies, and was based on Psalm [03, and was concluded with singing another Psalm -' I2l. The roll call was led by the Pres. with'all repeating in unison the 23rd Psalm. Hilda Simpson presided for the meeting. Correspondence was dealt with, the treasurer‘ s report given and also the report from the card convenor. We were reminded that U.C.W. Presbyterial meets Feb. I7th in Queen St. Church, Kingston. Thank offering was taken and dedicated. The speaker for the evening was Mrs. Joan Simpson, of Arc Industries, Gananoque. Six years ago this group was started to help those handicapped adults not able to fully cope with life. It is funded 80% by the Government and those attending are taught sewing, cooking, crafts, etc. Some work is done for industry that is within their capabilities and is supervised by the staff. Recreation is in the form of swimming, bowling and participating in local activities. Mrs. Simpson also mentioned that help is available for those younger than I8 - such as schooling at Sweet's Corners and for those under school age. To accident victims and those who have suffered {ram strokes, etc . help is also avoi Iablej. To show the various activities, Mrs. Simpson has slides of the various groups working, and also samples of their crafts, etc. Numerous questions were asked and the subiect was very timely as this is the International Year of the Disabled. Thanks were expressed to Mrs. Simpson for giving us this information and a cheque presented to assist in this work. All members are urged to visit Arc Industries. They move to their new location early in April. A social time was enjoyed with Myrtle Simpson and Helena Elliott providing delicious refreshments. Mrs. Langridge celebrated sixty years of continuous membership at St. John's. In her own words: - "It has been a pleasure." A presentation of a plaque was also made to Mrs. Irene Dawson by Father Bailey on behalf of the congregation of St. John's. Mrs. Dawson this year celebrates her twenty-fifth year as Superintendent of St. John's Sunday School.
