Mr. Doug Ritchie, an invited guest, was introduced and gave an interesting and informative talk on Senior Citizen Housing. He advised that the Municipalâ€" ity would be conducting a study to deâ€" termine the overall requirements for housing, including Senior Citizens. If a project was undertaken it would be necessary to form a non-profit Housing Corporation. The Legion is committed to support, and assist in, Senior Cit- izens Housing. A motion was passed to donate $100. to the North Leeds Lantern. The Annual Ladies Night was held at the Portland Community Hall on June 13. A fine crowd was on hand to enjoy the excellent dinner provided by the C.W.L. Comrade Linton McConville acted as Master of Ceremonies. All present were introduced and a cordial welcome was extended by President, John Greenhorn. The guest speaker, Roland Ashman, Past District Commander of District G, was introduced by Comrade Linton McCon- ville. He spoke on the service provided by the Legion in the communities throu- ghout Canada. He stated that the Legion was the largest service club in Canada with over half a million members. He gave praise to the ladies for the role they have played in Legion affairs. Comrade Pat McManus thanked the speaker and made a presentation to him. Mrs. Ann Greenhorn presented flowers to Mrs. Ashman. A Past President badge was presented to Comrade Floris Bakker by President John Greenhorn. Mr. and Mrs. Bakker have left the area and are now settled in their new home at Font Hill. They made a special journey for this occaâ€" sion. Vern MacPherson was honoured and thanked for his many years of dedâ€" 'icated service as the branch Padre and was presented with a gift by Past Pres- ident Floris Bakker. Rev. Harry Seeley was made an honâ€" ourary member of the branch and was presented with an Honourary Membership Card and badge by Roland Ashman. Both Rev. MacPherson and Rev. Seeley who were accompanied by their wives, thanked the legion for their kindness and expressed their pleasure and appreâ€" ciation. Mrs. Edna Talboom, Ladies Auxiliary Zone Commander, extended greetings and good wishes on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary, Ontario Command. Comrade Bertha Dillon, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, extended a "Thank You" to the branch for the enjoyable evening. Comrade Jack Murphy thanked the catâ€" erers, the C.W.L., for the splendid dinner. All retired to the auditorium for dancing and socializing. Music was proâ€" vided by D.J., Ron Murphy of Newboro. A Legion fish derby will be held on June 27th, opening of the bass season. There will be prizes in four classes - bass, pickerel, pike and lake trout. All area lakes are included. Lunch will be available. Watch for the posters. All are invited to join in the fun and sport- smanship. The legion will sponsor a bus to Montreal on August 9th, to attend a double~header ball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Expos.
