STUDENTS GIVING INSTEAD OF RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIP The first and second year classes of the Mental Retardation Counsellor program at the Brockville campus of St. Lawrence College. are pulling a switch. Instead of working to receive scholarships, they are endeavouring to establish a scholarship fund which will enable a developmentally handicapped person in the community to continue with education or development. To get the fund well started, the two classes are holding a lucky draw, and Black and Decker Limited of Brockville has very generously donated the two prizes, a Workmate and a Workhorse. Coâ€"organizers for the project are 2nd year students Liz Ayearst and Helen Cardinal. They have sought the help of local radio personality Bruce Wylie who will make the draw, on air, December 14. Several community agencies are involved in the project as well. The Brockville and District Association for the Mentally Retarded, the Brockville Community Workshop, St. Lawrence Regional Centre, and James and Pearl Street Residences will make applications for the scholarship available from December 8. The forms will also be available in the Business and Human Studies department of the College. Deadline for completion of the applications is February 28, and the award will be made by April 30. Tickets will be on sale at the College and at Biba Jeans Shop, 75 King Street West, Brockville, until December 11. The cost is a mere 75¢ or 2 for a $1, and somebody has a chance to win a great Christmas gift as well as support a first-rate project.
