In 1890, W.T. E. Singleton built a Post Office for the people it of "the corners". In 1898 the name of Singleton‘s Corners was officially changed to Crosby. This happened for two reasons. There was a Post Office in western Canada already bearing the same name thus the mail was often delayed and even lost. The second reason involved the Brockville and Westport Railway. When the railroad was built, a station was erected at Singleton's Corners. Through an agreement with the Township, this station bore the name of Crosby. Thus to avoid confusion in both these aspects of service, Singleton's Corners became Crosby.
